Villa Maria 3 Villa Maria 5 On Oct. 9 the Cubs thrashed the University of Pittsburgh (Brad ford), 7-1 for its third straight win. With only nine goals in its first seven matches, Behrend answered for 15 during the short winning skein. 0 1-1 0 0-0 However, the win-streak came to an end on Oct. 12 when St. Vin cent, a highly-ranked NAIA school, dropped the Cubs in over time, 3-2. Sophomore forward Mike Hockenberger scored both goals as the booters fell to 5-3-2 with the defeat. Tennis team loses finale Mercyhurst blanked Behrend’s women’s tennis team, 8-0 on Oct. 8. For coach Pam Fischer this year’s team finished with a 5-7 regular season record. Lady Spikers split matches On Oct. 8 Behrend’s women’s volleyball team defeated Washington & Jefferson College before losing to host Grove City in tri-match action. Behrend easily downed Washington & Jefferson by scores of 15-13 and 15-11. Grove City defeated the Lady Cubs, 16-4, 15-5. After the split Behrend’s record stood at 12-7.
