The answer can be found by asking the Inter-Club Council Chairman, Greg Goldsmith. "The ICC is a club formulated to bring all on-campus clubs and Johnny Arnone's ITALIAN DELICATESSEN 2907 Buffalo Rd. When an actor director team matures on the screen it is sheer heaven. The actor-director team that I am referring to is Steve Martin and Carl Reiner. Martin and Reiner have made five films all together including their latest and best, Al! of Me . The majority of the Martin-Reiner films such as The Jerk and The Man With Two Brains, have been little more than Martin's stand up comedy act put on film. The Jerk and The Man With Two Brains were repetitive, lacking in plot, and just plain un funny. After these two flops, Martin and Reiner tried something dif ferent. They found a real movie with a real script and a good plot. The result of this effort was the delightfully unique Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. In this film Martin showed that he could act to some extent. He created not on ly a hirable but also a believable character. After Dead Men, Martin and Reiner could have gone back to their old ways or forged ahead to newer and better things. For- Behrend Clubs nuine interest in the making of a stronger ICC," says Goldsmith in relation to the responsiveness that ICC has stimulated. Some of the coming events that the ICC plans to sponsor this semester are: Halloween festivities, a Winterfest indoor carnival, and a Christmas bazaar in which individual clubs sell Christmas novelties. The teaming of Martin with veteran comedienne Lily Tomlin is sheer genius on the part of Carl Reiner. Not only do the two work well together as a team, but their respective styles complement each other. A number of the scenes in the film are so superb that they could not have been played any better by one of the great comedy teams like Tracy and Hepburn or Allen and Burns. The plot of the film is slightly unusual. Martin portrays a Mickey Mouse lawyer who can not decide what to do with his life. Matters become more com plicated when he is put in charge of straightening out the affairs of extremely rich but fatally ill Lily Tomlin. To complicate matters even more, Miss Tomlin has made a deal with a crazy guru to have her soul transmuted into the body of her stable keeper's daughter. Unfortunately, as in all comedies, something goes wrong and Miss Tomlin's soul ends up in Martin's body. Once inside Martin's body, Miss Tomlin's soul controls the left half while Martin controls the right. The result is a masterpiece of confusion and lunacy. success of the ICC is club par ticipation, and "If I can get at least 50 percent patticipation from three major organizations,. the ICC can make a positive dif ference for on-campus activities," says Goldsmith. His talent for physical comedy shines through. Watching him, I could have believed that there were two souls in his body. While one side walk ed and acted like a man, the other walked and acted like a woman. In one particularly memorable seen the two sides of Martin's body fight for control. The skill with which Martin pulls off this .. scene rivals that of such greats as Chaplin and Lloyd. Quite simply he steals the show. He does this, however, through creativity and comic genius, not by making a fool of himself. Martin's performance is not on ly believable, it is also enjoyable. His maturity as a comedic actor can be seen not only in his perfor mance but also in his choice of material. He has become more sophisticated, charming, and just plain funny. I sincerely hope that he continues in the direction that he is headed. If he does he is sure to succeed. Even if you do not like Steve Martin, I'm sure you will change your mind after seeing him in All of Me . All of Me is rated PG due to mild profanity. directly to Student Government. In addition, the position of secretary is open for interested students. "I see a need for people to come together and work in linison," states Goldsmith, and in light of its great start, the ICC just may provide the key. ICC meetings will be posted.
