MARCH 30, 1984 Behrend Baseball Hits It Off The Behrend baseball team, coached by Joe Spinelli, will take on Bucknell University in an away Erie Teams Advance By M. Coursey Three Erie area High School basketball teams have made it to the PIAA Western. Finals. In the AAAA Class, the Cathedral Prep Ramblers and Meadville Bulldogs will meet Wednesday night, 28th March, at Edinboro's McComb Field House. East High will repre sent this area in the AA Class playoffs against Washington High, Wednesday night at Westminster College. All three of the teams should be congratulated for their fine per formance and representation of Erie area basketball this season. Prep and Meadville have met twice this season,--tips Wednes day's _game-sh6uld go all the way tclihe final buzzer. East High should represent the Erie area well in its AA Western Final. The Warriors now tallying 22 victories should have a good shot at advancing to the PIAA State Finals. My predictions for Wednesday are: Prep 61 - Meadville 57, East High 55 - Washington High 53. The club has eight lettermen returning for action , this year. They include: Mike Angelo at cat-: cher, Geoff Bishop infield, Rex Feldmiller pitcher, John Hansen outfield, Mike Kruszewski infield, Mark Lane catcher, Rob Simon outfield, and Mark Snippert in field. The Cubs have six new addi tions to last year's squad. The Cubs play 17 games which are all doubleheaders plus the district tournament. The team's Lady Cubs Softball Underway The Behrend Lady Cubs soft ball team has been training for their season opener on April 3 at home against Villa Maria. Coach Jan Wilson is very con fident about this year's team. "This is one of the hardest working teams I've had yet," she says. "The team is very en thusiastic and fun to work with." The team has - especially been working hard on improving their offense this year. "The freshmen are good hit ters. And I hope to combine their talent with the up perclassmen to make a good of fense," says Coach Wilson. Returning for the Lady Cubs THE BEHREND COLLEGIAN first home game is on April 5, when they will do battle with Case Western Reserve at 1 p.m. The pregame show starts at 11:30 with the Cubs hitting, and then at 12:00 the opponents hit ting. Each team then gets 10 minutes of fielding and then the line-ups are introduced at 12:50. The Cubs have six home games, and 11 away games this season. If you want to see a schedule of the games, they are posted on the baseball bulletin board in the basement of Erie Hall. Earlier in the day, Ridge lec tured an International Law class (P 1 Sci 416) at Behrend on the three major areas of foreign policy debated during the 98th congress: Arms control (involving the nuclear freeze resolution), the Lebanon situation, and Central America. Ridge also gave a general assembly speech, concerning the basics of the U.S. system of government, to a receptive au dience at Behrend, which was followed by a brief question and answer period. ST.
