Student Clubs and Organizations Accounting Club The Accounting Club encourages interest in the field of accounting by promoting Penn State-Behrend's Accounting program, by encourag ing students to become more active in the Accounting program, by creating opportunities for students to broaden their knowledge of the accounting field and by providing social activities for accounting students. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students. Astronomy Club The Astronomy Club seeks to pro mote interest in the field of astronomy by providing social ac tivities, by using and increasing the capabilities of astronomical equip ment at Penn State-Behrend, and by creating opportunities to broaden the members' knowledge of astronomy. Membership is open to all Penn State-Behrend students, regardless of major or status, in ac cordance _with the policies and regulations of The Pennsylvania State University. Biological Invohnonont( Organization The Biological Involvement Organization (810 Club) seeks to promote interest in life sciences at Penn State-Behrend and to enrich the student. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students. International Association of Business Communicators lABC, Behrend Student Chapter, is a constituent member of lABC, Regional Student Chapter compris ing all active college chapters in the Erie area. The Association strives to promote higher standards of organizational communications to increase the professionalism in the field of business communication, to encourage education and training in the field and to promote ethical, ef fective practices among business communicators. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students; associate membership is available to all other interested per sons. Management Club The Management Club en courages interest in the manage ment field by promoting Penn State- Behrend's Management programs, both two-year and four year. The Club creates opportunities for students to broaden their knowledge in the management field. Social ac tivities are planned periodically. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students in good standing, regardless of major or status, i.e., associate, provisional, non-degree, etc. Associate membership is available to part-time students. Psychology Club The Psychology Club seeks to en courage interest in the psychology field by promoting Penn State- Behrend's Psychology program, by creating opportunities for students to broaden their knowledge of the psychology field, as well as pro viding social and intellectual ac tivities. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students, regardless of major or status, i.e., associate, provisional, non-degree, etc. Associate membership is available to part-time students. ROTC Adventure, Club The ROTC Adventure Club pro vides an outlet and means for adventure-type training and works with other Penn State-Behrend organizations to promote the enrichment of the College and of the community. Membership is open to all full-time students of Penn State- Behrend College and to all Behrend College employees. Roundtable Society The Roundtable Society seeks to stimulate interest in the experience of literature and related arts, in cluding the practice of creative writing, and to bring together in terested students, faculty and staff members for various enjoyable and worthwhile programs. Membership is open to all full-time Penn State- Behrend students and to all faculty and staff members; associate membership is available to all other interested persons. Society for the Promotion of Excellence in Engineering The Society for the Promotion of Excellence in the Engineering Disciplines (S.P.E.E.D.) en courages interest in the field of engineering by promoting Penn State-Behrend's engineering pro grams, both two-year and four year. The society creates op portunities for students to broaden their knowledge of the field. Social and educational activities are plan ned periodically. Student Personnel Association The Student Personnel Assocation of Penn State-Behrend is a student chapter of the American Society for Personnel Administration. The Association affords students an op portunity to gain knowledge and in sight into the personnel and in dustrial relations field, and en courages the growth and later con tinuation of knowledge, com radeship, respect and mutual con fidence in the several aspects of the personnel and industrial relations field. Membership is open to all full time Penn State-Behrend students; associate membership is available to part-time students. Behrend Collegian The Behrend Collegian is the of ficial news medium of students, faculty and administration at Penn State-Behrend College. It strives to present an accurate and balances picture of life at Penn State- Behrend, both academic and cocur ricular. The Collegian serves as a forum:or the free exchange of opi nion on the part of students, faculty, administration and all others in terested in Penn State-Behrend Col lege. In the execution of its function, the Collegian strives to live up to the highest traditions of the free and responsible press. Membership is open to any full-time student at the Penn State-Behrend campus, other wise qualified by the rules of the University. Literary Magazine (Tempus) The function of Tempus, a non profit organization, is to produce a tri-yearly, bi-yearly or yearly magazine of the highest quality and standards. The magazine will con sist of articles supplemented with pictures and pictorial essays pro duced by members of the Tempos staff. Any full-time student at Penn State-Behrend College who ex presses an interest in publishing a high-quality magazine, and who is willing and capable of attending regular meetings, is eligible to serve as an officer or staff member of Tempus. Part-time students may also participate in writing the magazine. Radio Club (WBCRI The Penn State-Behrend Radio Club provides the student body with educational and recreational radio programming, and offers practical experience to those interested in the field of radio and broadcasting. The Club endeavors to supplement and assist the College in providing a well rounded educational environ ment. Membership on the Radio Club staff is open to all full-time students in good standing at Penn State-Behrend College. Part-time students may also participate on a non-voting basis. Cub Yearbook The Cub Yearbook is it student publication designed to capture glimpses of the academic year. It is a memory book and a reference book for the College community. Membership on the yearbook staff is open to all full-time Penn State- Behrend students; associate membership is extended to all other interested persons. Association of Black Collegians The Association of Black Col legians provides a vehicle to pro mote unity among Black students at Penn State-Behrend, to encourage campus and community involve ment, to integrate students at the College, and to enhance awareness Mack culture at Penn State- Behrend. Membership is open to all full-time students in good standing at Penn State-Behrend; associate membership is available to part time students. Barbell Club The Barbell Club provides an op portunity for Penn State-Behrend students to receive advice and guidance regarding weight lifting and body building, whether students are beginning, intermediate or ad vanced lifters. Membership is open to all full-time Penn State-Behrend students; associate membership is available to part-time students. Behrend College Christian Ass'n The BCCA provides in terdenominational Christian fellowship on campus, and a better understanding of the Bible and its applications to the issues of life and academics. The Association pro motes Christianity on campus, and serves to promote the interests of Penn State-Behrend College. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students; associate membership is available to part time students. Behrend Music Society The Behrend Music Society pro vides quality musical activities for the cultural enrichment of Penn State-Behrend students, faculty and staff, and of residents of the sur rounding community. This is ac complished through the per formance of associate groups (e.g. The Behrend College Concert Choir, Swing Choir, Pep Band and The Statesmen) and guest artists. Membership is open to all full-time Penn State Behrend students who have an interest in the society; associate membership is available to part-time students. Behrend Players The Behrend Players seek to develop a general appreciation for the theatre through performance and to provide opportunity for members to obtain experience in various phases of theatrical pro duction. Membership is open to all full-time students at Penn State- Behrend College who wish to pur sue their respective interests in theatrically-related fields. Associate membership is available to part-time students. Chess Club The Chess Club provides for students an opportunity to learn the game, to compete against other players on a regular basis, and to enter tournaments both on and off campus. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students; associate membership is available to part-time students. Science Fiction Et Fantasy Society The Science Fiction and Fantasy Society at Penn State-Behrend Col lege strives to provide programs which serve the recreational and social interests of the College com munity. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students. Society For Inquiry On Women's Issues I.) The Penn State-Behrend Society for Inquiry on Women's Issues is a support group dedicated to the education, growth and awareness of Penn State-Behrend students, facul ty and staff concerning the issues of women. Membership in the Society is open to all full-time students and to faculty and staff members; associate membership is open to all other interested persons. Top of the Hill Club The Top of the Hill Club serves to promote friendship, support and recreational activities for the members and to encourage involve ment individually and as a group in general campus activities. Although the organization's central purpose is to provide fellowship for older, non-traditional students who bring life experiences to the college ole, membership is open to all full time Behrend students; associate membership is available to part time students. Veterans Organization The Veterans Organization of Penn State-Behrend College seeks to promote common interests of veteran students and serves as a medium for interaction and the mutual assistance of veteran students. The ultimate aim of the Veterans Organization is to channel veteran student activities into positive contributions for the Col lege community. Membership is open to full-time Behrend students who, for a period of not less than 180 days, served honorably in the United States Armed Forces. Associate membership is open to all students, faculty and staff at Penn State-Behrend. Cheerleaders The Behrend Cheerleaders pro mote school spirit at athletic events, both home and away. All full-time Behrend students in good standing are eligible for membership. Members are chosen through com petition by a panel of judges com prised of students, faculty, and staff. Outing Club The Outing Club organizes outings and numerous recreational activities including snow skiing, rock climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting and biking. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students. Witt Club The Rifle Club at Penn State- Behrend College represents the University in competitive rifle shooting. An eight-person team is formed each year, comrprised en- Urely of Rifle Club members, to engage in intercollegiate competi tion. Club members compete against team members for a place on the team. All club members may participate in fun shoots and will learn safety and marksmanship skills for competitive shooting. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students. Ski Club The Penn State-Behrend Ski Club is an organization strictly for downhill skiers. Lessons are provid ed for beginners, intermediate, and advanced skiers. In addition, ski trips are arranged at nearby ski resorts and, occasionally, a Spring Break ski trip is organized. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students; associate membership is available to part time students. Student Union Board The Student Union Board is the governing and programming body of the J. Elmer Reed Union Building at Penn State-Behrend College. The Board strives to plan, implement and evaluate programs which serve the cultural, educational, recrea tional and social interests of the Behrend College and the communi ty. Members recommend policy governing use of activities, pro grams and services which are of an all-college nature. Members learn interpersonal, communication, pro motional and leadership skills. An increasing number of Union Board members are developing indepen dent studies for 1-6 credits that in volve application of specific course material to real-life situations over which the Student Union Board has jurisdiction. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students in good standing; voting membership requires that a member serve in a leadership capacity. Volleyball Club The Volleyball Club is open to any full-time Behrend student who has a genuine interest in playing Power Volleyball. The club seeks to build and maintain interest in this in creasingly popular sport. Commuter Council The Commuter Council seeks to plan, implement and evaluate ac tivities for commuter students, and to address issues affecting com muter students at Penn State- Behrend. Membership is open to all full-time Behrend students; associate membership is available to all other interest persons. Inter-Club Council The Inter-Club Council is comprised of presidents of all officially recognized student organizations at Penn State-Behrend College. The Council meets regularly to plan ac tivities that require the cooperation of several organizations, such as Autumn Weekend, the Christmas Bazaar, Winter Festival and Spring Week. Joint Roskionco Council The Joint Residence Council relates the views of students living in the residence halls to the ad ministration and to the Student Government Association regarding student welfare. In addition, the JRC sponsors activities that meet needs and satisfy interests of resi dent students at Behrend. Member ship is comprised of hall floor presidents elected at the beginning of each academic year. All Behrend students interested in the JRC are welcome to participate in Council activities on a non-voting basis.
