DECEMBER 18, 1981 Club News CLUBS NEWS Several new clubs have become available to Behrend students. Over winter term the Ski Club and Volleyball Club will be in full swing and student participation is encouraged. Plans for a Behrend College Bridge Club have dissolved because of a lack of student interest. Janine Callen, head of the Student Union Board, encourages interested students to attend S.U.B. meetings. They are held at 7:00 p.m. in the Seminar Room of the Reed Building. kE .L. aq JLEI.6.UVA.Id The Outing Club is planning its winter activities. Club President Kurt McCall says upcoming events in January and early February, will include a downhill ski weekend in Swain Ski Resort, New York. A weekend of cross country skiing in Allegheny Forest is also planned. ' Although the expenses of winter activities run relatively high, the Outing Club is trying to organize several varied events. They are a Ski-Skill Race (a cross-country ski race which will take place right on campus). Open to non-members as well as members, the Ski-Skill Race is scheduled for early February. This fund-raising activity will feature different levels of com petition, such as novices, in termediates, and experts. An Outing Club membership requires an annual payment of $5 in dues. Bus leaves Reed 10:15 a.m. Sundays to go on trips with the club pay a relatively small fee to cover the costs of transportation, lodgings, etc. TIM BIOLOGY CLUB Under the direction of Phil Lar son, student president, and Ad visor Harry Cunningham, the Biology Club is making plans for selling plants at the upcoming Christmas Bazaar. As usual, the Biology Club will also sponsor their plant-sitting service over Christmas Break, charging a small fee for experienced plant care service. President Phil Larson invites students to attend Bio-Club meetings. The money made in events such as the plant care ser vice and Christmas Bazaar pay for the activities of the club and therefore there are no student dues. No field trips are planned in the near future but the club hopes to visit nearby museums and natural settings within the next several weeks. The Biology Club may also attempt to join with the Psychology Club in studying fields of Biology and Psychology that are pertinent to both fields, such as mental illness. Through speakers, meetings, and bible readings, club members talked about shar ing their faith with others. Club President Joe Fornear thought BEHREND COLLEGIAN that the retreat was very suc cessful. Membership is open to anyone who attends meetings consistently. pw:131.01a1001kvorao The Behrend Rifle Team clin ched their second victory, Thurs day, November 12, by defeating Gannon at their own range. The final score was an impressive 995 for the Cubs to a• 751 Gannon. High shooters for the team were Kathy Kightlinger, Jim Fisher, John Morris, Tim Richards and Wayne Wright, respectively. By outshooting Clarion earlier in the season, this gives the Behrend Ri fle a 2-0 standing. Yours, Werd "CP" Leknuk Capolk Found Sub Tournaments The Student Union Board is currently holding a billiards, ping pong, chess, and bowling tournament for those students who excel in such activities. So far, billiards and the ping-pong are the only events that have been completed. The winners for the billiards tournament were Dave Macer in first place and Jeff Lynch taking second. In the ping-pong competition Matt Rowles took first, and John Tufton came in second. As of Monday, the chess tournament had not been finished. Un fortunately the bowling tournament had a mix-up at the bowling alley where it was to take place and thus has not yet taken place. John Wycoff, one of the organizers of the tournaments, said, "that it was being rescheduled for a later date." All the winners of the separate events will have a chance to com pete in a branch campus competition later on in the year. A liability waiver form must be signed by every person renting the equipment. Off campus usage is encouraged. If the equipment is in a damaged condition, the person returning it is responsible. Prices are as follows: Equipment returned on same day rented - $3.50. Equipment returned - on follow ing day - $7.00. Weekend rental (Friday- Sunday) - $lO.OO.
