PageTwol From The Desk Of The Editor Speaking for the staff of the Collegian, I can honestly say that the last issue of the paper was a success. We were quite pleased with it. I hope that the presses keep rolling the same way. I was having trouble thinking what to write about this week, when a friend suggested that I write about sex in the dorms. There is one big problem with that. I’d have to write completely from the observer’s viewpoint and I’m sure that I would get my facts screwed up. Instead, I’m going to write about a different find of love. It is a romance that continues to spread in popularity each day. A student recently asked me, “What is the purpose of the Behrend Collegian?” I said, “Well it... ” and I was at a loss for words. I told this student that I couldn’t answer that question, but not to despair, as I would figure it out ana write an answer in the next issue. After a period of pensive meditation and thought, I decided the Collegian represented the voice of the students. It is a way of publicly voicing your grievances so that others (not just friends) will hear them. It is also a method of informing students of what is happening on campus. Now, the question arises, how do I take advantage of this Collegian service? It’s really simple: write a letter to the editor and speak your piece. Now if you don’t want to do that, you can speak to me and I’ll in clude your grievance in my column. If you don’t want to do that, well, I guess you’ll just have to live with your problem!! A Word From The President Since I last wrote you, many new and exciting things have happened in the Student Government. Last week we held an election for class officers. The results are as follows: Kurt Cavano, Senior President; Gerry Hansen, Junior President; James MacLachlan, Sophomore President; Scott Hurly, Sophomore Vice-President; Dan Flemming, Sophomore Treasurer; Carol Levison, Freshman President, Matt Sawyer, Freshman Vice- G I E A FA E A T T H S 0 Q M R C T Y K K B I N F RSA K 0 L KTL R 0 M *» C E tiE' T to E T to N E I GLR 0 T C N E I T' C K URG S E E .ODH C K N YYT A U B EEP A T T DHE M B E By Dave Jordan I Editor-In-Chief | Now this love is very strange considering free games, that because it usually makes people works out to be about 100,000 quite frustrated, but the more games played a year, frustrated they become, the To find out whv ninba]l is on h^ th aiahi dei T ** P°P ula r» l went to the Backroom t . ■ k ? Now dorms more enjoyable. But then at two games a quarter and also again, how would I know? As I See It As far as finding out what’s happening on campus, all you have to do is read the Collegian. That shouldn’t be too hard as none of the Collegian writers write on an incomprehensibly high level. Some grievances that were brought to my attention are: 1) The lack of student participation in the Student Government Association. You must realize that the student government works for your benefit, but it can’t do that if you don’t provide input. The S.G.A. is the “legal” representative of the student body. They work for changes in policy when the students feel that the policies are in error. So if you want to initiate change in Behrend policy, come to the next meeting, Tuesday, October 18th, at 7:30 p.m. The second and final grievance that was brought to my attention is the absenteeism on the part of certain members of the faculty. I can understand an occasional missed class as we all have President; and Chuck Dodd, Freshman Treasurer. But, a great number of students have told me about a newly hired female professor in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences who, remaining unnamed, has been repeatedly late, dismissed early, and not shown up for entire classes. With the cost of education being high, especially at Penn State, the students are being virtually robbed by repetitious absenteeism. Lewis W. Balmer, Associate Professor of Chemistry, stated in a letter to the editor on February 17, 1977, that a class costs a student approximately $3.00. If an average class has ap proximately 30 students, that comes to about $90.00, which is nearly grand larceny. If you feel you’re getting ripped off by a member of the faculty, whether it’s the one previously mentioned or someone else, write us a let ter; we’d love it UC H G DAN I IL E Y H E Ft X C.
