Pa • e Two Dear Editor: I'd like to express my concern about the lack of student participation at Behrend. This past Friday night the cheerleaders sponsored a pep rally on the ski slope. The purpose of pep rallies, to the best of my knowledge, is to give the team, in this case, our soccer jocks, spirit and let them know that they have our support while they are out on the field doing their best to win. I can honestly say that had our soccer team depended wholly on the support given them Friday night, they might just as well have handed a winning score to Indiana on Saturday. . For the amount of students enrolled at Behrend, it seems to me that a good many more than 25 should have found the Vehrtub (follegiatt aTiyt frrss Assyrian/In of atanunsttuvralth elantpuers Managing Editor Georgean Gaydosh Business Manager: Marty Pattyn Business Staff: Bruce Pizzini Advertising Manager: Scott Rudzinski Circulation Manager: Jayne Switala Cartoonist: Jack King, Unni Wyller Artist: Marsha•Thorson Staff: Sue Skiba, Debbie Ries, Bud Ore, Gary Schonthaler, Jim Councelman, Lynn Alexander, Jeffrey Matson, Muriel Hykes, Cindy Arnold, Stephanie Zappa Layout Staff: Patti Sewell, Karen Burton, Gail Atts, Cindy Richards Typists: Lisa Evans, Betsy Sterling, Jeanne Murray. Dear Editor: We would like to remark on the condition of the RUB during the weekend. The cafeteria area in particular is a disgrace. How much energy does it take to walk a few yards to put the disposable refuse in the waste cans? It is embarrassing when parents come up on weekends only to see the tornado hit the RUB cafeteria. Dear Editor It's really great - that Behrend is having a Homecoming celebration to commemorate the 25 year anniversary of Behrend's existence. And I'm sure many students are helping to plan the many activities.. My complaint is the weekend chosen of November 3 and 4 for the celebration. Why, there is not even a home soccer match scheduled that Saturday! To me, The college campuses are in a period of quiet now. Ten years ago they were ex ploding and now that the fallout has settled all is quiet again. There is much that can happen under the cover of such quiet, especially when beneath it are the memories of the revolutions of the sixties. This generation of college students, "and perhaps the underclassmen more so, were too young to realize the im portance of what was hap pening on the campuses. We were 'playing dodge ball on the playground while students at Columbia University were taking over buildings. We were learning geometry while students at Berkeley re introduced the phrase civil disobedience to a nation of angered students. We can all remember Kent M`i CNA OA %At . OD Homecoming is a time for bonfires and home football games, but in our case, at least a Cub soccer match. Concerned Student Where'd It Go? Dear Editor Why is there a hole in the wall in Lawrence Hall Lobby? Could it be due to the fact that the clock is missing? It seems the clock disap peared in May of '73, during Behrend's Spring Arts Festival Weekend. No one seems to know if the clock was stolen or broken, but the kids in Lawrence sure do miss having it..-7 Not a day goes-by= , without someone asking • the time. A lot of freshmen ask why there is a hole in the wall. The Edi Tu torial Opinion rn, Turn, Turn By Jeffrey Matson' Staff Writer State and probably more than a few of us participated in a high school version of protest by wearing arm bands or not going to class. Still, the real revolution was out of touch for us. We were still safe in our living rooms watching the whole thing on television. And now, no one is mar ching anymore, teachers strike more often than students, things are very...quiet. This is not to say that college students today are apathetic about problems in the world. It is not to say that we have run out of problems. Still there is really nothing to go out in the streets and fight about. Students are still concerned, but occupying a building can't bring down food prices. We don't like what is happening in government, but wMAT THE *6! GIVE ME BACK 50frir Dri'llgiXg. sophomores' reply is that the clock is missing. But we don't know why it's never been replaced, do you? Dear Editor We would like to express our appreciation to the first floor Lawrence girls for not only their verbal support at last Saturday's game but also their written verbiage in Dobbins Hall. It is with such school spirit that the Behrend Soccer team feels it truly has a home: field advantage. the leaders seem to be getting caught without our help. What students are doing now and should be doing is taking advantage of the rights they have. Rights that were granted and defended through the sixties are being put to positive use now. More and more students are registering to vote, others have become active in political camffaigns and other organizations that work for change within the system. The concern is there. The energy is there. And we, in Pennsylvania too, should not sit back yet. (As an out-of state resident I am insulted by Pennsylvania's majority age, you should be also). And perhaps because we have learned something from the sixties, when we go after peace and justice in our generation we will do it in 'a peaceful way. Alumni Authors Two Behrend students, James Haag and Fred Palmer who are majoring in Civil Engineering, co authored with Miss Kiyoe Mizusawa on the paper "Visual Movement with Actual Target Displacement." The paper was read by Miss Mizusawa at the 17th Technical Symposium sponsored by the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers at San Diego, Calif. on August 27, 1973. It will appear in the proceedings. These students were on the Dean's List at Behrend last Spring term and are presently enrolled at University Park. 1 cLiNK- • )sIK 1 September 27, 197 Kids in Lawrence Hall We Like It The Behrend Soccer Team Pros & Cons ...Furniture is slowly disappearing from the TV lounges and Dorm lobbies. .._1:20 a.m. false alarm fire drills get to you after a while. ...F3ehrend's soccer team is outasite. ...The dorm phones scare you to death, their ring is so loud. ...No more "rent-a-cops"; a real safety patrol. ...Dobbins Hall seems to be missing quite a lot of salt shakers. ...Girls' tennis team is lookin' sharp. ...Only seven more weeks left of fall term.
