After being rained out of Saturdays match with Beaver Campus (PSU) Behrend came out and overwhelmed Erie County College with a dazzling, devastating play. The final score of the match was 9-0 after Behrend swept both singles and doubles. Coach Lauffer men tioned that the final score does not indicate the strength of their team. He pointed out that four points we won were decided in the third set after being tied at the conclusion of two sets. The closest single match and perhaps most exciting was between Behrend’s Bob McPherson and ECC’s Acharya from India. After losing the first set 6-4 Bob was down again 5-2 in the second set. Acharya only had to win one point to become the victor but McPherson went on to win that set 7-5 capturing a point for Behrend. Jay Baker also came back to win his match after losing the first set. The other three set victors were Jim Higgins and A 1 Lopus. So far this year Behrend has three players that have yet to be beaten. They are Bob McPher son, Jay Baker, and Joe Shev chik. This means that they have earned victories in both singles and doubles in the last three matches. However, every man on the starting team has a winning record in match play. Jim Lyons, Jim Higgins, and A 1 Lopus are all 2-1 singles and 3-0 in doubles action. This exemplifies the success of the team showing -the great depth they possess. Both Bob Hicks and Jay Kossler are constantly putting up pressure on the men already in the line-up for a Starting berth. After traveling to Lakeland Community College this Saturday Behrend will play host to Cuyahoga-Metro here at 1:00 Tuesday. Cuyahoga-Metro, located in downtown Cleveland could be one of the toughest matches of the year for the netters. Each match will indicate the teams potential and ability. If tilings continue as they have been Behrend should give a good showing at the Region 19 tourney, which will be held here at Behrend on May 18,19,20. The team has expressed their joy in seeing the spectator turnout at the matches so far this year.
