Third Floor Niagara defeated the Scaboogies as they continue to lead in Girls' intramural basketball. 3rd Floor Niagara Tops Gals Action In girl's Intramural action this week the Third Floor Niagara kept their, first place stronghold with a 14-7 victory over the Scaboogies. The Third Floor victory can be at tributed to a fine all-out team effort by Jill SeHeck, Marnie Fischer, Diana Bain, Judy Smith, Judy Holt, Bonnie Angevine, and Barb Keiter. Behrend Collegian Cub Wrestlers Crushed; Bounce Back Hoped on Fri. by Dave Ruef Sports Editor The wrestlers of Behrend Campus suffered their worst loss of the season at the hands of a powerful Cuyahoga West 45-3. The defeat dropped the grapplers record to 2-5-1 on the year. Julio DiMarco (7-1) lost his first duel match of the year to Ben Camargo 4-1. Julio couldn't control his man and suffered a takedown that cost him the match. At 126 lb., Mike Kerr battled John Coleman even until the 2nd period when Kerr sustained a knee injury. Unable to move, Kerr survived a 7-2 defeat. Kerr is a doubtful starter for Friday's match against Dußois. Big Weekend For Sports by Dave Ruef Snorts Editor This weekend should prove to be an exciting one for Behrend sports fans. The wrestling team, who have not been home since December 18, will face Dußois (PSU) at 6:30 p.m. this Friday evening at Erie Hall. The grapplers need just one more win to break an all time record of three victories in one season. The wrestlers, clad in new uniforms, always put on a great show. At 8 p.m. the cagers of Behrend take the floor to play Dußois, a team Behrend defeated earlier 'this season. Dußois is a fast, hustling, scrappy team that should give Behrend a good game. The following night, Saturday, Behrend faces one of their toughest tests of the season again?..t Beaver Campus (P.S.U.) Behrend must defeat Beaver if they hope to gain a berth in the upcoming Commonwealth Campus Tourney. The highlight of Behrend's frustrating evening came from Paul Jazenski. Paul defeated Bruce Bora 8-4 with a fantastic comeback with 40 seconds remaining in the final period. Down 4-2, Paul reversed his opponent and put him on his back until the final buzzer. Jazenski remains undefeated in duel matches with a 7-0 slate. The other half of the Wild Pollacks, Tom Staszewski, did Paul, Denny Share Athlete of Week by Dave Ruef Sports Editor Grappler Paul Jazenski and Cub Cager Denny Deiner, have been chosen to share this weeks' honor as Athletes of the Week. Paul Jazenski, captain of the wrestling squad. was the lone winner in last week's defeat at the hands of Cuyahoga 45-3. Paul laced Bruce Bora, who defeated him earlier this season in the Edinboro Tourney. Late in the third period Paul was down 4-2. This is a perfect situation for an athlete to roll over and die. Paul also pinned 5 of his 7 opponets. Jazenski has emerged as a team leader and his gained the respect of all his teammates. The defending Commonwealth Campus champ is a criminology major in his fifth term. Paul hails from lroquios where he was Section 1 champ. Sharing honors with Paul this week is Denny Deiner, the tall and talented center. Denny poured in 22 points last week in a losing cause against Fayette. He was 9-16 from the floor and 4-5 from the sin strip and also garnered in five rebounds. Deiner. who never played high school ball faces a real disad vantage playing the center position at only 6' 3": Most centers are taller and Denny is usually guarding a man 6'7" or 6"8". Denny however, makes amends ith his excellent jumping ability and quick moves. Denny has been improving steadily and has caught the praise of Coach Sweeting. "Denny is learning what -he can do, and that valuable game ex perience is turning him into a fine ball player." Thus far. Denny is tops in rebounds v. ith 79 seconds in scoring '133 pts., 11 ppg ) and is shooting 48 per cent from the floor. You can catch both Paul and Denny in action this Friday night against Dußois.
