Beh rend Briefs Tennis streak comes to end The men’s tennis team suffered its first loss in eight games to Notre Dame after a hard fight ending in a 7-2 lost in South Bend, Ind. This loss came after two conference-deciding 8-1 victories against Frostburg St. at home and away against Pitt-Bradford. The team also traveled to Washington, Pa. to face off against the Washington and Jefferson Presidents in non-conference play. They defeated them 7-2. Junior Elliot Blackstone and freshman Chris Galvin still remain strong in their play as they both continue to thrive in their re spective No.l and N 0.2 singles positions. Also the doubles play has been strong from the Behrend Lions as they have been dom inant in the matches winning all three matches against the Frot stburg Bobcats. The Lions look to get back on track with a road trip down south facing off against Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State Altoona April 9 and 10 respectively, and then finished off the weekend in Mary land on Bobcat courts as the Lions look to sweep Frostburg St. for the season on April 11. Golf to prepare for AMCCs The Penn State Behrend golf team is back in full swing for the 2009-2010 spring season. After winning the AMCC conference for only the second time in team history in the fall, the team looks to do damage in the spring as a busy schedule preludes the NCAA Division 111 tournament in Hershey, Pa. Senior captain Joe Nelson looks to take this young team deep into the D-111 tournament in early May as he was the low man for the team in six of 10 matches and took medalist honors in two of those tournaments. The team played last week in miserable con ditions against Westminster. Sophomore Kevin Koerbel was the low man on the team, shoot ing an 82 as the team finished middle-of-the-pack in a 12 team duel on New Castle Country Club. After coming off the program’s first win this season at the Wheaton Invitational in Illinois, the women’s water polo team suffered three straight losses. The Behrend Lions dropped to 1-17 as they were ousted by Grove City, Washington and Jefferson, and Mercyhurst in the last week of action. The Lady Lions, however, are back in action again this weekend in the CWPA regional tournament tak ing place in New London, Ct. This tournament will be one of the final tune-ups before the team travels to Utica, NY to take part in the CWPA Di vision 111 championships at the end of the month. Before that, the women’s water polo team only dives into the pool two times, facing off against the Mercyhurst Lakers down the road on April 13. Behrend then hosts their final home match of the season four days later against Chatham University.
