Tennis streak comes to end
The men’s tennis team suffered its first loss in eight games to
Notre Dame after a hard fight ending in a 7-2 lost in South Bend,
Ind. This loss came after two conference-deciding 8-1 victories
against Frostburg St. at home and away against Pitt-Bradford.
The team also traveled to Washington, Pa. to face off against the
Washington and Jefferson Presidents in non-conference play.
They defeated them 7-2.
Junior Elliot Blackstone and freshman Chris Galvin still remain
strong in their play as they both continue to thrive in their re
spective No.l and N 0.2 singles positions. Also the doubles play
has been strong from the Behrend Lions as they have been dom
inant in the matches winning all three matches against the Frot
stburg Bobcats.
The Lions look to get back on track with a road trip down south
facing off against Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State Altoona April
9 and 10 respectively, and then finished off the weekend in Mary
land on Bobcat courts as the Lions look to sweep Frostburg St.
for the season on April 11.
Golf to prepare for AMCCs
The Penn State Behrend golf team is back in full swing for the
2009-2010 spring season. After winning the AMCC conference
for only the second time in team history in the fall, the team looks
to do damage in the spring as a busy schedule preludes the NCAA
Division 111 tournament in Hershey, Pa.
Senior captain Joe Nelson looks to take this young team deep
into the D-111 tournament in early May as he was the low man for
the team in six of 10 matches and took medalist honors in two of
those tournaments. The team played last week in miserable con
ditions against Westminster.
Sophomore Kevin Koerbel was the low man on the team, shoot
ing an 82 as the team finished middle-of-the-pack in a 12 team
duel on New Castle Country Club.
The team travels to Apollo, Pa. to participate in Carnegie Mel-
lon’s invitational on the Links at Spring Church and will then

discuss the upcoming season.
After coming off the program’s first win this season at
the Wheaton Invitational in Illinois, the women’s water
polo team suffered three straight losses. The Behrend
Lions dropped to 1-17 as they were ousted by Grove City,
Washington and Jefferson, and Mercyhurst in the last week
of action. The Lady Lions, however, are back in action
again this weekend in the CWPA regional tournament tak
ing place in New London, Ct.
This tournament will be one of the final tune-ups before
the team travels to Utica, NY to take part in the CWPA Di
vision 111 championships at the end of the month. Before
that, the women’s water polo team only dives into the pool
two times, facing off against the Mercyhurst Lakers down
