In game one, Behrend de feated Thiel by the score of 6-3. In game two, Behrend won 2-1 It was a true pitchers dual. Game one had plenty of ac tion. Thiel put pressure on starting Lions’ pitcher Brooke Tarasovich right off the bat, who had to deal with runners at first and second base with two outs. Behrend avoided early trou ble as Thiel’s first basemen Elise Moore would line out to the Behrend shortstop. Behrend would also leave runners stranded in the bottom half of the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Behrend could not put up runs early in the game. However, they put up a three run third inning. With runners on every base, sophomore third baseman Ash ley Gruber hit a bases-clearing triple to give Behrend a three run lead into the fourth inning. “I had all the faith in the MEN’S TENNIS Behrend defeats Alfred St., extend win streak to 6 games KAELA BISHOP The domination continues on the courts for Penn State Behrend’s men’s tennis team. The team has increased their winning streak to 6-0. The team defeated Alfred 5-4 during a non-conference match -up. The Lions won four of six matches. Manning and Nagel each contributed a winning singles match. The team also prevailed during all three doubles matches. Galvin has played consis tently well during his freshman year. He has made a large im pact on the team. With Shane Moiser and Manning injured, the team will need his talent. Traveling did not affect this team’s poise, boosting their streak to 6- 0. The Behrend Lions are now 12- 5 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The team has not let the orts and 2-1 to Behrend’s late-game show ing, as the Lady Lions would go on to win 6-3. The second game turned out to be a defensive struggle. Behrend jumped out to an early lead as freshman Kessi Osborne singled home Mary DeMino. Thiel would not answer until the fifth inning, when they tied the score up at 1-1. But, yet again, Gruber would come through in the clutch with another timely hit. She singled in Amy Greene, who sat on third base. Gruber would finish the day with four runs batted in. It was a successful day for Behrend as they swept the Thiel Tomcats and improved their overall record to 6-6 on the year. “We came out to play ball today. The focus was here, and we played hard,” said head coach Stacy Pondo following the game. “We want to continue this type of play.” Behrend will now focus on their upcoming game against Pitt-Bradford, AMCC Confer ence rivals. injuries affect their success. The Lions have enough talent to fill in the gaps and motivated players to step up. In the AMCC conference, the team still has to face Pitt- Greensburg, Penn State Al toona, Frostburg State, or D’Youville. Behrend has played each team already, the only loss was the Penn State Altoona during a 5-4 match. The Blue and White are con fident this time and will look to maintain their winning streak during the four remaining con ference games.
