8 I The Behrend Beacon Penguins provide excitement to new season Bv Christine Newbv sports editor ceioosfi(« pMi.alu The Pittsburgh Penguins have kept fans on the edge of their seats at the start of the new season as three out of their five games have been decided with less than a minute to go in over time. The team started the 2008-2009 sea son with a tough opening schedule against four powerful teams in the Eastern Conference who all made the playoffs last year. With a total of five points, the Penguins are 2-2-1 overall. The Penguins first two games were against the Ottawa Senators in Sweden. The Pens then traveled back to Pittsburgh to face the New Jersey Devils. Philadelphia Flyers, and Washington Capitals. Overseas, the Penguins won one and lost one against the Senators. The Pens won the first game in overtime 4- 3 when center Tyler Kennedy scored with ten seconds remaining. The next day, the Senators stepped up their per formance and won 3-1. The Penguins played the New Jersey Devils in their home opener at the Mellon Arena. Despite being out shot 49-13 by the Devils, the Pens were somehow able to add a point to their record as they lost in overtime by a score of 2-1.
