SGA Sen . • • . - • 1 by Mike Frawley: managing editor This past week SGA has been very busy filling openings on the Student Senate. Up for grabs were three Freshman Senator seats and one regular Senate seat. According to the SGA constitution, at the beginning of each school year an election is to be held to elect three Freshman senators to SGA. The only people eligible to hold these seats are first semester students who submitted petitions to SGA to be put on the ballot. The SGA constitution was . just amended last year to increase the number of Freshman Senators from two to three because of the growing number of freshmen students attending Behrend. The Freshman Senator elections were held on September 19 and 20 with four candidates on the ballot: Michelle Armstrong, Kurt Presnar, Bill Hogan, and Jason Brendel. Armstrong, Presnar, and Hogan were elected to the senate with 100, 77, and 65 votes respectively. Clint SGA Vice-President, said, "I am very pleased with the turnout we Don't forget to get registered by October 91 got for a Freshman election, and the three people elected are very excited about working on SGA." On Wednesday, September 21, SGA filled a vacant seat on the Senate by a secret ballot vote. Chad Warren, who was elected to the Senate in the regular elections last spring, had to give up his seat for personal reasons, leaving an open seat. Three people were nominated to fill the seat: Vielka Wilkinson, Kim Moses, and Kevin Schram. Moses won the seat by a vote in the Senate, in accordance with the procedures for tilling an open Senate seat in the SGA constitution. Melody Sherosky, who was in charge of the elections, said, "we had a lot of people interested in the SGA this semester, which is wonderful. One of the people who ran for the open Senate seat but did not make it was still able to be involved by joining a couple of committees. We encourage anyone who is interested in being a part of SGA to come to a meeting and see what it is all about." SGA meetings are held every Wednesday night at 5:20 p.m. in Reed 114.
