Watch the sparks fly as Democrat James Carville, best-selling author, presidential advisor, and Clinton campaign manager, matches with Republican Angela "Bay" Buchanan, former U.S. treasurer, former co-host of CNBC's Equal Time, and politi cal campaign manager for her brother, presidential hopeful Pat Buchanan. Buchanan has been rec ognized by George magazine as one of the top 20 political women in the nation. Carville is a senior political advisor to President Clinton. MUSIC AT NOON: THE LOGAN VVINTERGARDEN SERIES Chesnut Brass Company is third in line for Music at Noon: The Logan Wintergarden Series. They will ap pear at Behrend on Tuesday, Novem ber 16 at Noon. The Chestnut Brass Company was founded in 1977 to advance the art of musical performance on brass instru ments and to preserve the history sur rounding these instruments. The Chestnut Brass Company has been at the forefront of period-instrument re vival. The CBC regularly commis sions new works and premieres con temporary brass music. TEIBELE AND HER DEMON CONTINUE THEATRE SERIES Teibele and Her Demon, a drama by Isaac Bashevis and Eve Friedman, will take place on November 12. 13, 16, 17, 18. 19. and 20 at 8 p.m., No vember 14 and 21 at 2:30 p.in in the Studio Theatre. Directed by Lecturer in Theatre, Tony Elliot, Teibele and Her Demon takes place in Frampol, a small Pol ish village, in the 1880 s. The young and beautiful Teibele has been de serted by her husband and, under the law, is not allowed to marry again. Alchonon is a woebegone. unem ployed scholar who loves Teibele from afar, knowing that they cannot marry. The tale of how Alchonon fi nally succeeds in winning Teibele's heart and soul creates a mysterious and passionate play. "I saw a production of Teibele and Her Demon a few years ago and was very excited by the atmosphere cre ated in the play, - said Elliot. "This play takes place in a world where de mons and angels are part of everyday life, a world very far removed from our own, hut interesting to visit dur- ing the play." Teibele is played by freshman Wendy L. Mc Gaughey of North East, who has appeared in a number of pro ductions at North East High School and with the North East Community Players. Electrical engineering ma jor Thad Esek, a freshman from South Park, PA, plays Alchonon, the unem ployed scholar. Others in the cast in clude senior Michael Puline of Girard, freshman Rob Kearns of Gihsonia, PA. junior Matthew Parson of Franklin, sophomore Ed Gabrys of Franklin, and sophomore Lori Frietze of Erie. CREATIVE WRITERS SPEAK ER SERIES Andrea Barrett will continue the Creative Writer Speaker Series with A Fiction Reading on Tuesday, No vember 30 at 7 p.m. in the Reed Lec ture Hall. Described as "unique" and "bril liant" by reviewers, Andrea Barrett's writing transforms science from "hard and known fact into malleable, strange, and thrilling fictional mate rial." She is the author of the recently acclaimed novel, The Voyage of the Narwhal, and her collection of short fiction, Ship Fever, received the 1996 National Book Award. This one credit course involves meeting with local members of Congress, visits to embassies, and tours of government buildings. The trip and course are open to students from all majors.
