William Baxter, assistant pro fessor of physics, will present "Sand box Physics" on Thursday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Science Building. Baxter's lecture will describe basic properties of granular matter such as soil, seed, and pharmaceutical powders, which have a variety of industrial applications. While these substances continue to surprise scientists with new and as yet unexplained properties, recent breakthroughs have dramatically im proved knowledge and understand ing of granular materials. Duritig the leeture, the audience will be titcout aged to try several "hands-on" dem onstrations illustrating the properties of granular materials. Following Baxter's lecture there will be astro nomical observing sponsored by the Behrend Astronomy Club and the Society of Physics Students. New Allergy Injection Policy - Any student needing allergy injections is encouraged to call the Health and Wellness Center at 898-6217 to make an appointment. Students no longer need to be on maintenance in jections to have the service provided. Any student can participate in the Penn State-Behrendl Diehl Elemen tary Adopt-A-School for one or more semesters. Tutors must commit themselves to tutoring at least once per week. After school tutors are needed from 2:30-3:40 p.m. on Mon days, Tuesdays, and Thursdays with transportation provided from the Reed Lot. In school tutors who can provide their own transportation are welcome to sign up for one hour Monday through Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m. No prior experience is necessary and all majors are welcome. You will be working with children kindergarten through grade six.
