In the first match, Behrend faced Pitt-Greensburg. The Lady Lions won 15-1, 15-6. and 15-6. Mary Good, Erin McCormick and Beth Calhoun led the offense with 6 kills apiece. Angie Georg chipped in with 19 assists, while Heather Learch recorded 3 service aces. "We were very confident going into the match," said Heather Learch. , • • • .., '•• " • ' , "- , 4 , 4e. • • h• ' Fox leads Lady Lions to win, earns ATW Junior Lisa Fox had a big week for the Penn State-Behrend women's soccer team, to earn the Housing and Food Service Athlete of the Week Honors. Fox, from Carrick High School in Pittsburgh, P.A., played a big role in pacing the Lady Lions to their second conference win this season. She produced a hat trick by scoring three goals and even contributed an assist in the Lions 8-0 slamming of Pitt- Bradford. "The conference title gives us a big goal to work for," said Fox. "I think that we have a great shot to take the conference title," she said. Fox and the rest of the Lady Lions will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Oberlin College. The week began with a match with St. Vincent. Next the Lady Lions traveled to nationally ranked Nazareth. Behrend finished the week with a conference match-up with Pitt- Bradford. On Sunday, the Lady Lions traveled to Pitt-Bradford for a conference showdown. Behrend came away from the game with an impressive 8-0 victory. "It was a good conference win for us. We possessed the ball well and were able to finish our opportunities." said Coach Dan Perritano. Leading the way for Behrend was junior Lisa Fox, who recorded a hat trick (3 goals) and also added an assist Freshman Katie Giles added a goal and an assist. Kristen Gonter, Michelle Finch, Alison Falk, and Christi Sheldon also netted goals. The defense held Bradford to only four shots on goal. Mary Ann Rupp recorded the shutout for the Lady Lions, her fifth of the season. Saturday's match pitted the Lady Lions against the 10th ranked school in the country, Nazareth. This week gave us an opportunity to learn and improve. Coach Dan Perritano Nazareth came away from the game with a 5-0 victory. Mary Ann Rupp made eleven saves in the effort for the Behrend defense. Unfortunately the offense was held to only three shots far the contest. Behrens:l won the match by a score of 2-1. All of the scoring took place in the first twelve minutes of the game. St. Vincent struck first with a goal in the 3rd minute. The Lady Lions were able to come right back when freshman Beth Cummings scored less than a minute later. Senior Michelle Finch notched the game winning goal for Behrend eight minutes after their first goal. Goalie, Mary Ann Rupp, and the defense were able to close the door on St. Vincent and hold on for the win. The week left the team with a record of 2-0 in conference play end 8-3 overall. "This week gave us an opportunity to learn and improve. We are on a bit of a roll at 8-3 with some good opponents upcoming," said Coach Perritano.
