The latest victory came on Saturday when the Lady Lions traveled to Lake Erie College for their first action in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). Behrend came away with an easy 6-0 victory over the Storm. "Our goal is to play hard and win the conference title. This is a realistic goal for us," said Coach Dan Perritano. Freshman Katie Giles opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the match when she took a pass from another freshman Beth Cummings and knocked it past the Lake Erie goalie. Four minutes later junior Lisa Fox added a goal to give the Lady Lions a commanding 2-0 lead. Cummings registered another assist when freshman Tricia Augustine bounced home her first goal of the year. Jill Barbish broke into the scorebooks when she scored on a pass from Fox. Barbish's goal was Behrend's fourth goal in just 13 minutes of play. Four minutes later the Lady Lions received a fifth goal when Jan Persang put a pass from Michelle Finch in the net. A Behrend player attempts to hold of an opponent as the ball spins her way The Lady Lions have won four games in row, including three last week Sophomore Christie Sheldon also took a Finch pass past the Storm's goalie to give Behrend their second 6-0 victory of the week. Goalie Mary Ann Rupp recorded the shutout, her third in a row and fourth of the year, to extend the Lady Lions record to 6-2. Earlier in the week, Behrend also defeated SONY-Fredonia by a score of 6-0. Giles again opened the scoring for the Lady Lions when she scored in the 10 th minute of action. 111. 11 The Penn State - Behrend women's volleyball team struggled this weekend at the Gettysburg tournament, dropping two of their three matches. The two losses drop the Lady Lions record to 7-8 on the year. "I think that maybe we have temporarily lost our confidence. However, 1 feel that in the past week of practice we have ironed out the problem for the most part," said head coach Cindy Jacobelli. The first test for the Lady Lions came against host school Gettysburg. Gettysburg ranked 19 th in their region, defeated the Lions by scores of 15-7, 15-4, 15-3. "We seem to be stuck in a lull", said senior captain Angie Georg. "Things will get better from here on out," she added. Freshmen Mary Good led the offense with six kills. w~>. '~ :. =IE The most heartbreaking loss for the Lady Spikers came against Allentown. Behrend lost by scores of 15-13, 15-5,15-11. "We should have won, we just made too many mental mistakes," said senior captain Amy Good. Senior captain Angie Georg suffered an injury to her hand in the middle of the second game and was forced to sit out the rest of the match. "Losing Angie really hurt our offense," said freshmen Mary Good In the losing effort, senior captain Amy Good led the offense with 5 kills and 7 digs. Cummings started off the scoring by taking a Giles pass and blasting it past the Fredonia goalie. Finch and Sheldon finished off the scoring for the Lady L inns In a week that featured twelve goals and two shutouts Behrend The Lady Lions finally picked up a victory against the Philadelphia College of Medicine and Science, 15-5,15-6,15-8. Leading the offense once again was senior captain Amy Good with 14 kills. Beth Calhoun and Erin McCormickassisted the offense with 5 kills aprece. Georg came back from injury to I got it! Michelle Finch had an outstanding week recording two assists and scoring a goal. Cummings also had two assists and a goal for the Lady Lions. Katie Giles, Jill Barbish and Christie Sheldon led the scoring attack with each player recording two goals. Giles also added an assist. Lisa Fox contributed a goal and assist to Berhend's offensive explosion pitch in with 25 assists. "We are looking to turn things around and have a good week," said Jacobelli. The Lady Lions will next be in action this weekend at the Lake Erie invitational tournament. October 10 th and 11 w ßehrend will host their own tournament. Several promotional events will occur throughout the weekend.
