Page 2 The Student Government Association's (SGA) Wednesday meeting yielded new resolutions concerning senator seats, the upcoming elections, and the controversial student activity fee. The meeting opened with discussion of the upcoming treasurer's meeting in Reed 114, Wednesday, September 27 at 6: IS. Organizations with non-attending treasurers will have their accounts frozen and will not be able to conduct business. The student activity fee was also discussed. This proposal, which will be voted on Friday, will impose a $25 fee per semester on all full-time Penn State students, beginning next fall. SGA debated the topic of senator seats for over half an hour before passing a motion to temporarily add one resident seat and two commuter seats. The current structure (six resident seats and nine commuter seats) was misrepresenting Behrend's increasing student body due to enrollment miscalculation, according to Commuter Council President, Steve Landon. The SGA constitution dictates that there be me senator seat for every 200 students enrolled. As of September 1, there were 3,178 students enrolled at Behrend, equaling 15 senator seats. With 1125 residents and 2053 commuters, the representation should have been five to 10. A motion to ammend the constitution that would allow for fractional representation (so that the last 125 residents and 53 commuters would be represented) was passed, and will be voted on in two weeks. "I think 125 students warrant another seat," said an emphatic Kim Epps State of the University Address BEHREND-All students, faculty, and staff are invited to hear Penn State’s newest presdident. The “Student Life Task Force” that was formed last January, surveyed over three hundred students to determine how students would like Behrend’s services to be improved. The survey’s outcome showed that most students wished for a more extended variety of weekend activity options. It is largely through the efforts of the Task Force: Rob Wittman, Coordinator of Intramural and Recreational Programs, Chris Reber, Dean of Student Affairs, and many others, that the activities presented on weekends are here this semester. One example of these improvements is the new “Blue Bus” service. This shuttle gives Behrend students transportation to the Millcreek Mall and many other attractions in Erie. Special trips can even be requested for larger groups, for a nominal fee. The bus schedule is posted at the front door of the Reed Union Building.
