Scouts learn and enjoy at Webelos Woods camp-out Over 100 boys participated in the annual Webelos Woods camp-out and badge extrava- ganza held recently at Moon Lake County Park. Webelos Woods is a special program designed to help We- belos-level Cub Scouts (fourth and fifth graders) prepare for the more rigorous outdoor camping activities they will ex- perience when they move up to Boy Scouts. With assistance provided by parents and Scout leaders, the Webelos boys are required to pitch their own tents, bring their own food and cook their own meals for the weekend. Webelos Woods is unique to other Scout camping because it draws together a team of local pert technicians and instruc- tors - to teach the Scout activ- ity pin sessions and permit boys to earn two different pins in one weekend. Experts were available to teach Geologist, Handyman, Readyman, Forest- er, Naturalist, Scientist and En- gineering badges. The annual Webelos Woods event is held during the first weekend in October each year. The event is open to all regis- tered Webelos Scouts in the Two Mountains District (Back Mountain/ Wilkes-Barre areas) of the Northeastern PA Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The event is under the direc- tion of Richie Huntington, Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 232, Gate of Heaven Church, W0ad.
