The largo auditorium was com fortably tilled last evening, and ihe session to day promises to bo full of interest. Kev. Dr. Win, West, conducted the devotional exercises at the opening of yesterday afternoon's session. After this Prof. Francis Mengas of York, Pa., gave an ex cellent talk on "How the Farm ers' have helped the Agricultura list of Pennsylvania." jje spoke forcefully of the difficulty of ac complishing much good without the co-operation of the farmers and of the good done in the mat ter of fertilizers, dairying, lim ing, bacteria, and many otiier practical subjects to which the institute has helped us. The talk brought out much dis cussion. Hon. Jno. P. Sipes took up the next period with a talk on "How to Advance the Material Interestof Fulton County." Mr. Sipes gives to the Farmers' In stitute largely the credit of hav ing increased the value of farm property in the United States in the last five years to the amount of over HONj.ooo.oo. In the way ot public improve raents railroads, development of mineral deposits, ivc, the speak er thinks that the citizens should be williug to sacrifice someting toward that end. Mr. R. F. Schwarz was then in troduced and emphasized the re- mrka of the preceding speaker m his talk ou "The Dew liod kaw :inJ t!,e tenners under it." Mr. St wa reviewed the legislature that has led to the nassase of the present law and showed how good roads can be made, either under the old law or the new, and liow the law can be abused. The speaker also urged that all public roads should be continuous aud should bo laid out to pass through the principal towns and secure the best roads to the greatest number. Mr. Norman Weller of the De partment of Economic Zoology was then introduced aud made a few remarks explanatory of the FIUKON cove. Nov. Judge and Mrs. L. P. A resolution says every communi ty should be empowered by law to vote every saloon from its midst or its borders." The grange strongly condemned all influences brought to win legislation by lol,. I byists or others anil deplored the use of money in campaigns. The recent agitation says a resolution and investigation in regard to ex travagance in the management of our great financial institutions, the exposure of graft in high places and the enormous power exercised by great transportation companies through combined ar rangen.enH nave aroused the peo- pie lo ft realization or the necessity of vigorous action if they would protect themselves against the inor dinate desires of wealth.
