After successfully conducting the Tunk hannock Republican for a little over four years, Mr C. D. CAMP, the able and enter prising editor has disposed of the establish ment to Messrs. BALDWIN IT CII VPMAN of Montrose. Mr. CAMP lias made the Repub lican one of the best papers in the country and what is quite as agreeable to him, made it pav too. The new proprietors are enter prising, ami itiou3 young men, and we doubt not will maintain the high standard to vhich Mr. CAMP has elevated the Republican, Mr. FRANK GOODMAN,who since the death of Mr. THOMAS DESMOND, in 1871, has been the Assistant Superintendent of the P. & N. Y. R. It., the Westeriy Division of the Le high Valley, lias been appointed General Western Manager of the business of the lat ter company,with office in this city. He is in every respect a first class railroad man, and the Sunday Xews welcomes him to Buffalo. An old man named EDWARD O'DOXNELT., while walking on the track at Savre Saturday evening was run over by the cars and killed. The premium list of the Bradford County Agricultural Society has just been issued from the office of the Bradford Republican, and is a very creditable specimen of typography. A large and valuable dog owned by GEO. BENNETT who lives on one of Capt. MAN* VII.LK'S North Towanda farms, showed un mistakable signs of being affected with rab ies one day last week and was killed. The trot between I>. C. DKWITT'S magnif eent young stallion, "David Hume,'' and B. A. LONG'S roan stallion, in Elmira Saturday afternoon, was easily won by the former in three straight heats, to the surprise of every body and the disgust of the backers of the Troy horse. Subscriptions to the Garfield fund have reached $e47.000. The President's mother is reported se riously ill in Cleveland. Ingatieff has finally induced the Czar to commute the death sentence of Hessy Helfmann. The yield of crops in Oregon, it is re ported, will be thirty to forty per cent, larger than last year. Twenty buildings were destroyed by fire at Bradford on Friday, including the U. S. Express office and two hotels. An Astronomical Congress will be held at Strasburg in September, and the lead ing astronomers of Europe and America are expected to attend. By proclamation of the Governors of Arkansas and Kentucky, Thursday was observed in those states as a day of fast ing and prayer for the President's recov ery. From official July estimates of the Boards of Agriculture of Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and lowa, the shortage in wheat compared with 1880 is: Ohio 12,- 000,000 bushels, Illinois 37,000,000, Mich igan 14,250,000 bushels, and lowa 17,000, 000 bushels. THE DEAD-LOCK BROKEN. The progress made at Albany Saturday iuditates that the end is approaching, A break in the stalwart ranks resulted in the election of Miller to succeed Piatt and Lapham will probably be elected in place of Conklin to-day or to-morrow. THE PRESIDENT GETTING WELL. The following dispatch was sent by the Presidents's surgeons to the consulting surgeons at 8 o'clock last evening : Since our dispatch of yesterday, the President has done as well as our hopes then indi cated. He has had a single hypodermic injection of an eighth of an grain of sul phate of morphia (at bed time) and slept well. Quinia in three grain doses has been continued, as has the plan of nour ishment hitherto reported. Ilis bowels have been kept free by enemas. Tiie wound is dressed with antiseptic precau tions, twice daily. There is now a free discharge ot healthy pus. The afternoon fever both yesterday and to-day has been comparatively light. ORDER OF THE IRON HALL.— The order of the Iron Hall, a local board of which was lately organized hero, has so altered its con stitution that any person above the age of 21 years who can pass the examination is eligi ble to membership. Heretofore it was re. quired that applicants must be members in good standing of some other beneficial society. Members are admitted between the ages of 21 and Go years. The order pays weekly sick benefits from 8-~> to 825, according to the rate of assessment. The order seems to be on a sound basis and worthy of patronage. Any information in regard to it may be obtained by calling on Mr. BRAZEE, at DYE fc Go's store, or any other member.
