MURDOCK, Physician of Board of Health. • Outhaoeods Attempt to Kidhap a Fhee - Coiobed 'Womah.—No little excitement was . created yesterday morning, at tho City Ilotel, by the attempt of a party of negroes to run off with a free colored :woman, named Caroline : Cooper, who was supposed to be a slave. It ap pears she came to the hotel the night previous, in company with a Miss Slaymaker, from Dm . caster, in this State, where she had lived since ;• ebe was a girl of eight years. A report circu 7. fating among the directors of the “Under Ground Railroad ” at this plaoe, that she was a ' with her mistress, a delegation of .their agents .was instructed to . spirit her away. . Yesterday morning, about 6 • o’clock, while she was at breakfast, a crowd of . eamo half dozen negtoos, headed by a barber named D.Davis, rushed into the. room, and, de ' spite her repeated assertions that Bho was.afree woman, seized and carried her off forcibly, using considerable violence in so doing. Mr. Slay maker,: who was.'also at the tablo, interfered to the abduction, but was hold back and > rather roughly handled. The woman sereamed :loaaiy, but disregarding her shrieks, tho ras cally mob forced her along Third Btreet, to near Wood, where they eeoroted her in some place prepared previously for the purpose. A short time after, ono of the proprietors of the City Hotel, went to Dr. 51. B Delany, a prominentcolored oitiz -n, (who is a Director or ppndnotor on the U. G. B. B.) and by repre .sonting to him that the woman was actually free, and nevor*had been a.olave,[succeeded, through his influence, in having her returned to the ho tel, where she still remains, suffering severely from the injuries received in the brutal kidnap ping. The -Woman, although always free, has tho appearance and a groat many of the character istics of a elate, and this, probably, led to tbo ttbdnctioD. Tho negroes concerned in if. were itot servants at the hotel, with tho exoeption of one, the steward, who was promptly disoharged by Messrs; Glass £ Carr, when they were in formed he had assisted in tho outrage. Great credit.is dno to theso gentlemen for the no ‘ tive part taken by them in restoring the poor woman to her kind mistress again. We feel as sured*,; that if cither of them had been nhont when the occurrence took place, it would not have happened. , Wo hope our oity may never again be disgraced -by s. similar;attempt. A high handed outrage like thiß should not go nnrebuked, and if May or Vote desires to show that he wishes to preserve tho peace of tho city, let him hunt ont and pun ish the authors. • .We might remark, in connection with 'this subject, that we understand there is a regularly organised association of blacks in this city, bound together, by the most solemn oaths, and ,meetlng in secret, whose object is the abduction .of negro servants, traveling with their masters, 'who are suspected to bo slaves. If these same 'negroes and .abolitionists were as ready to ren tder osaistanoe to the poor slaves after they have ' earned them off, as they ore to furnish means to run away with,.some meed of praise might be •awanlcd to them, but when their only object is to.take them from a kind.maeter that they may Btarv.e in. freedom, It is nuerly despicable, and .mean. .;;-v •*.*.; ;v ' Badly Burned—A woman reeidingia a houße ■on Penn -street, Fifth Ward, wnß badly burned about the neck and face, on Tuesday night, through the accidental firing of the bed npon 'Which Bho was sleeping. Going to bed in an in toxicated condition*, ehe left a candle burning ■Along side her bed. About ten o’olook the light i(as is supposed,) was accidently thrown over mpon tho bed clothes, which,-of course, quickly agniled. •. The woman, however, slept on, totally unconscious, and* would probably havo been burned to death if a couple of young men bed mot discovered the. fire and put it out. As it avas, her neok.-face, and upper part of her body, were badly injured. It has also a tendency to preserve the youthful color and appearance of the hair, and destroying or counteracting the effects of age. With such recommendations la its favor, we hardly perceive how any lady or gentleman should be without so valuable an adjunct to the toilet. Persons who -have used it from the age of sixty-four down, deolare it to be the most perfect ar ticle to secure the object intended ever yet produced. Gray hair, whether produced by the alow progress oftlme, or by any of the causes which whiten the lochs prematurely, is restored to a healthy, lively appearance, and. all the dlsa. greeable effects of dryness, the accumulation of dandruff or like impurities, aro removed. Prom the Editor of the Beal Estate Advertiser, 27 Schoolst: Bostoiv, March 20,1854. Psof. Wood: Pear Sir—Having become prematurely quite gray, I was induced same six weeks since, to make trial of your Hair Restorative. I have used less than two bottles, but the gray hairs have ail disappeared; and al though my hair has not fully attained its original color, yet the process of change is gradually going on, and I have great hopes that, in a short time, my hair will be as dark as formerly. I have also been much gratified at tho healthy moisture and vigor of the hair, which before was harsh and dry, aad it has ceased to come out as formerly. Respectfully Tours, P. 0. M. Rupp. Poor. Wood: Pear Sir—My hair commenced falling off dome three or four years since, and continued to do so until I became quite bald. 1 tried all the popular remedies of the day, but to do effect; at last I was induced to use your cel ebrated Hair Restorative, and am very happy to say it is doing wonders. I have now a fine growth of young hair, and cheerfully recommend its use to alt similarly afflicted. A. 0. WmiAHSoy, 183 Second street. St. Louis, March 7th, 1854. Omni, 111., June 27th, 1853. I have uredProfl 0. J. Wood's Hair Restorative, and have admired its wonderful effect.
