KcaolutlOBi Paaaed toy tbe Stat Committee. Tbe Porchaaable Vet. Harrisburg Dispatch to the Times. The meeting of the Democratic state committee in this city to-day was appar ently highly satisfactory to those who par ticipated in its deliberations. All except members of the committee were excluded. The members of tho committee are said to have generally given a good account of the situation in their respective districts, but a few gave notes of warning that if the Democrats expected to win a victory over the regular Republicans, supported by the national administration, they would be re quired to make one of the most determined anil systematic fights in the history of the jarty. The committee was admonished that no effort would be spared by the Stal wart leaders to buy the purchasable com modity in the Democratic ranks, and hints were thrown out that negotiations were already pending for the capture of thousands of voters. One or two mem bers talkod as if tho Greenback-Labor candidate for governor, although a Re publican, was expected by tho Beaver men to draw more votes from the Democrats than tho Republicans. Tho old game, they said, would be repeated, if possible, of having Democratic Greenbackcrs vote tho Greenback ticket and Republican Greenbackcrs support the Republican ticket. Chairman Ilensel was sustained iu all his plans for the prosecution of the cam paign with great unanimity, tho members of the committee generally placing great confidence in his capacity to conduct a successful contest against the Republicans. Toward the close of the proceedings of the committee Black, Elliott and Africa were conducted to the meeting place of tho committee and made brief speeches, in which they stated that they would do all iu their power to achieve success. The candidate, m far as their canvass has thus far extended, repotted the outlook for Democratic uucces.i exceedingly favor able. In tho contested election case of Doyle and Matthews, of Philadelphia, tho com initteo decided to admit both persons, giving each a half vote. Dr. Burchfield, of Cleai field, offered a resolution, which was adopted unanimously, "That the sec retaries this day chosen shall bo tho offi cers of this committee when iu session, and the chairman ol tho state committee shall have power to appoint such secreta ries, .stenographers and agents as he may deem proper to aid him iu his personal work in charge of tho campaigu." Mr. Blackford, of Yoik, offered a resolution, which passed unauimously, "That tho chairman of tho state committeo shall have exclusive charge of the liuancial af fairs of the campaign. Ho may appoint such finance and executive committees as his judgment approve, and he may cm ploy and pay special agents to aid in state organization iu auy section or county in the state." Appreciates Its Work. Times, Ed. The Democratic state committee, at its meeting in Harrisburg yesterday, ap peared to understand the desperation of tho light which has been undertaken. If tho committeo does not at any point un derestimate tho resources and tho charac ter of tho Stalwart campaign it will have done a great deal toward winning the fight. It evidently starts with a knowledge of the situation, aud Chairman Ilensel can be safely trusted to take care of tho rest. Workingmen, Don't Yon Forget It. I y coming ( hronielc. " If Hancock is elected, this establish ment will close." "If you want your iron mills closed, and all industries dependent upon them brought to a stand still, vote for Hancock." The above expressions were common in Republican papers in 1880, and many work iugiuen "were frightened and deceived into voting the Republican ticket at that time. Hancock was not elected, but Garfield was, anil what has been the result? Have "better wayjgs" followed his election .' No; the miners oFthis country are getting only 1)0 cents per day now. nas "steady work" been "assured" to the men in the iron mills and elsewhere V No ; there are now one hundred and fifty thousand men in " general idleness," and who did not reach this pitiable condition by the election of General Hancock. The roseate times promised to follow the election of General Garfield have not come, but instead, stiikes for higher wages and "general idleness" have. The Republicans can not get rid of the logical effect of their own proposition. Two years have passed since the last presi dential election, and, although Hancock was not elected the iron mills, as said, are closed, and over one. bundled thousand workingmen arc out of work. Had that of 18S0 been the first attempt made by re publicans to deceive the laboring men, there might be some excuse, but it was not. Time and again has this same old story been rehashed and the workingmen bitten by the lying bait every time. "" It is about time they are getting their eyes open to their own interests. Orgaiilro at Once. Lebanon Advertiser. Let organization be commenced at once in every school district. Let the first work be Ihc preparation of lists of Demo cratic voters, so that the assessments may be properly and completely made. Let the aim now be to register every voter. There is nothing more annoying than to find, when it is too late, that this one and that one is not assessed and that his vote is lost thereby. Prepare your lists now, and have them constantly at hand and iu mind, for additions and corrections, so that by the lime the registers close, the work may have been done perfectly. The labor re quired will not be nearly as great as most iersons imagine, it only requires a little intelligent attention. Do not wait to be appointed for the work, but let one or more iu each school district do it volun tarily, and when completed hand the same over to tho township committee for final examination and assessment. CRIME AND PATALITV. Death In Varied Forma of Violence. Herman Von Heim, aged 17 was drown ed while bathing off Deale's shore, Balti more couuty, Maryland. A woman named Williams, at Scrauton administered carbolic acid to an infant by mistake. The child died in tcnihle agony. Julian Boyd, a young man, was waylaid near Thompson, Ua., whilo riding through the woods and fatally shot. Suspicion was directed to three brothers named Martin, w hose .sister charged Boyd with Beducing her, aud warranti for their arrest have been issued. William II.
