LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCER TUESDAY. JANUARY 10, 1882. fianrastri -ntrlltsrnreu TUKSDAY EVENING, JAN. 10, 1882. Slieep cu the Farm. Gcnnanum n Telegraph. Fifty te sixty years age every farm, however small, bad its little fleck of sheep, te supply the family wool and the material for knitting the family stockings. In almost every faim-hense the humming of i.n ii!r irnni-wiipf-l. which manufactured the yarn, could be heard at some distance from the house, and everywhere stockings weie being knitted for family use. They weic net very fine, but they were thick and warm and were two or three times as long as the present machine-made article. This little Iteck of sheep was always the pets of the faun. Their feed cost next te nothing. I'astuie fields which cattle could no longer graze were just what the sheep preferred. Every hole and corner they nipped clear of grass ; and in the winter the poorest hay and a little salt kept them in a geed condition, while the lambs net only kept up the stecl:, but furnished all the mutton re quired in the family. -The knitting ma chine had net yet made its appearance, and each family which could net afford te supply its wauts from the costly foreign mauufuctuicd articles was forced thus te pievidc for itself. The little girls in a family were taught te knit as seen as they weie able te handle the needles, and lu'iice the cost of the supply of stock ings fm the family was quite inconsider able in fact, it took no leady cash from the fai mcr'fa packer. New, the keeping of sheep is ex tuushely pursued, especially en large fainis, wheic poitiens of the land is hilly, leckv, and uniit for cultivation. Here sheep thiive finely, and where bystematic ally mauaged they are the most profitable branch of the entiie farm. The best breeds are used or out-lit te be, that is for both wool andeaicass ; and we may add that just as Mieep husbandry is better and bet ter understood, the niore extensively will it be intieduced. Our Western and Nei th western farmers, where this branch is lapidly increasing be be yeiid oilier s-cctiens, are abundant ly satisfied that in many respects the Heck of slieep is the best helper, net only in filling the purse, but iu keeping up the condition of the land, without really any actual expense, that is within reach of the husbandman. One thing should, thcre thcre feic, be lenii'inbeied by farmers who have suitable land at their command, that they make a veiy gieat mistake and submit te an annual less of meic importance than they imagine in the absence of a geed and beautiful lleck of improved sheep brows ing upon the hills, Miutita. The following article was voluntarily sent te Mr. 11. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigait's Old Wine Stere, by a prominent practising phvsi cian et this county, who has extensively u'seu the Brandy referred te In his regular prattler. It is commended te the attention nt llie-e Ki ll icted with Indigestion and Dyspepsia. BRANDY AS A MEDICINE. This new much abused Alcoholic stimulant was never intended as a beverage, but te be used as a medicine of great potency in the cure of some of the destructive itiseases which sweep away their annual thousands el victims. With a purely philanthropic motive we pit sent te the laverablc notice et invalids espc. cially these flttltctcd with that miserable dis ease Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, which is nothing iiien or less than Brandy. The aged, with feeble appetitu and mere 01 l-ss debility, will find tills simple medicine, when used properly, A Sovereign Remedy or all their Ills and aches. Be it, however -uiictiy understood that we prescribe ami use but one article, and that Is REIGABT'S OLD BRANDY, held by our enterprising young friend, II E SLA) MAKER. This Brandy has steed the test ler years, and has never failed, as fai as our experience extends, nnd we thereto:! give It the preference ever all etner Brandies nematler with hew many Jaw-brcakingFrcnch titles they are branded. One-fourth el the money that is yearly thrown away en various impotent dyspepsia specifics would siifHce tc buy ull the Brandy te cure any such case 01 ases. In proer of the curative powers et Reigart's Old Brandy, in cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon nuiu hers of witnesses one ease iu particular vt cite: A hard-working tanner had been afMcteu with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of years; his stomach would reject almost ever kind of feed; he hail sour eructatiens con stantly 110 appetite In tact, he was obliged te restrict bis diet te crackers and stale bread, and as a beverage he used McG rutin's Reet Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new S reached at times, and in his discourses often eclaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong drink. When advised te trv Reierart's Old Brandy, In his case, lie looked up with astenlsnuieni but ufter hearing et Its wonderful ellects in the cases of some of his near acquaintances, lie at last consented te lollew our advice. He used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the first bottle giving him an appetite, und before the second was taken he was a sound man.wUL a stomach capable of digesting anything white hejehese te eat.- He still keens it anil uses n lit tle occasionally; and since lie has this medi cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene fit te the doctor.
