She has also a large class of pupils at Bain bridge, where she spends every week sev eral days giving instiuctiens in the fine art in which she is quite accomplished. Last, week a class of 14 pupils was pro moted from the lower primary school, Mr. Frauk Huth, teacher, te the graded school, taught by F. Y. Weidenhammer. On Friday evening of the week before last a literary and debating society was organized in the graded school building. Mr. F. Y. Weidenhammer was elected temporary president, and Mr. Frank Stauf fer, secretary, after which a pregramme was arranged for next meeting and a com mittee appointed te frame a constitution and by-laws. The second meeting of the society was held en last Friday evening. After the meeting had been called te order and the minutes of the preceding meeting were read, the committee en con stitution and by-laws lepeitcd progress. Mr. Jesse Kurtz then read a spicy selec tion aud Frank Staufl'er toad an essay, after which followed a lively debate en the subject : ' Resehcd, That Merracnism should be abolished." The question was discussed at full length and a decision given by the judges in favor or the nega tive. The next meeting will be held en Saturday evening.
