Cern cakes made from dough tbat "Lad steed ever night in a elated crockery dish poisoned an entire New Albany, Iud., family recently. The fire-year-old child of Abraham Kline, of Mt Pleasant. Pa., was strangled te death by getting its bead wedged be tween the piekets of a fence. When the boiler exploded in tha saw. mill near Oakland. Md., the fireman, Mar shall Butler, was blown across the Yough Yeugh Yough iegbeny river and 700 feet through a thick et, and buried, head foremost, under an old leg. In Terente an escaped bullock made for the Den river, followed by two drovers. Just as they had entered th'e stream the beast turned, caught ene of the men named Stein, flung him into the water and held him there until he drewned. Holten B. Shaw, of Falmouth, Ky., swallowed a pin while playing football. Sinee then be has had a pain in the breast, and has no appetite. Physicians have tried in vain te relieve him. He is a stu dent in the Pendleton academy from Alex andria. One end of a crochet needle which Mrs. Ilenson, of Jacksen township, Iud., had in her dress pocket struck with such force against a rail of a fenoe she was climb ing that the needle was driven into her left side. Burgeons have been unable te find it. The little son of James Baker, of Perry, Ga., upset a hive of bces. and stirred up the bees with a stick. The children and their parents were badly stung, ten chick ens and a deg were killed, and two pigs were stung nearly te death by the augry bees. Somebody unfastened the reins from the bit of the herse which Edward Farrell, of Lafayette, Ind , was about te drive, and as he took them up expecting te check the horse, he was thrown violently backward, and received fatal injuries. "I forgive everybody except the man who loosened the reins,'' he said just before he died. x RHiisT'sTasl fight. Marcelin Granger, alias " Le Tore Dc La Mermentau, " a desperado of south western Louisiana, met a long predicted fate Sunday morning, near the Mermentau river, in Calcasieu parish, at the hands of Hemer Legnon. Granger who had threat ened te sheet Legnon en sight, went te a party of horse-herders where he knew Legnon was employed, and challenged him fera fight. Leguon proposed te dismount for that purpose Granger replying that he (Granger) did net want te fight,' Log Leg non turned away from him, wheu Gran ger fired at his back. Beth meu dismount ed and Granger advanced en Legnon, both the young men firing at each ether with pistols. Granger's last shot being at such close quarters that it sctLoguen's clothes en nre. Legnon s last snot cutemi Granger's forehead killing him Instantly. Granger was hit three times out of four shots, but Leguon escaped unhurt. Granger is accredited with two murders of peculiar atrocity, and his taking oil gives general satisfaction along the Mermentau river. A Very Crooked Kead. Barllngteu Hawkcye. "Aw, guard, they tell me this is a very crooked read," said the tourist when he bearded the local for Virginia. "Well, rather," was the reply. "There are several places between here and Vir ginia where a passenger can hand a cigar te the engineer?" " By Jove ; that's astonishing. I must watch out for the curves, you knew." He watched, and though backed around pretty well- between the tunnel and Scales, lailcu te swing such a tremen dous circle. "Loek here." said he te Fellctt when they arrived at Virginia; f Where was the place where a passenger in the rear car could hand a cigar te tnc engineer l "Why, one point was Mound Heuse ; there is a geed saloon there, and there is plenty of time for any passeugcr te get off the car, get a cigar and hand it te the en gineer." The tourist tumbled. He trcatcJ all hands aud acknowledged the sell. The Prevailing Mania. At Buffalo, N. Y., an unknown man was seen deliberately te jump into the canal. The body was recovered ; it has net yet been identified. The man was ap parently a stranger, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, .light moustache, close-cut hair, dark working clothes, white shirt, silver watch-chain en his person. At the residence of Charles Brown, a young man, Frederick Simpsen, engaged in the house as a waiter, has been ill -sonic time from consumption. He became de spondent while drunk, went into a closet, drew a coat ever his head, and shot him self through the heart. The body was net discovered until some time afterward. Net a drop of bleed was visible, and no one in the house heard the report of the pistol. It is thought that he mufllcd the sound with the coat se as net te attract at tention. He belonged te Londen, England, and has no friends in this country. A Geed Account. There isin Philadelphia a clothing house which has no double in all the world, the world, is full of clothing houses ; and it is a geed deal te say that one is unlike all the rest. First, in its dealing ; aud it is surprising that one house should differ much from another. Selling clothing is se simple a matter, that it is likely, one would suppose, te be dene in very much the same way in Philadelphia, New Yerk and Londen.. But Philadelphia is ahead ; and, curiously enough, one house in Philadelphia is ahead of all the rest. Te be ahead in dealing is te ileal en a higher plane in a mere liberal way, te give the buyer mere well founded confidence without less of the merchant's safety. This Philadelwhia clothing house says te a strauger : " We want te deal with exact justice. We waut what belongs te us, viz., a fpir profit ; and we want you te have what belongs te you, viz., a liberal money's-worth. Our way te arrive at a result is te mark the price en everything we sell, which price is absolute; and te let you buy what you like, go away and think the bargain ever, and come and trade back, if you want te. We find by experi ence that this liberality is harmless te us. Of course, yen like it. And it makes quiek and ready dealing. We deu't waufr you te bring back what you buy it would cost us money every time ; but we would rather you would bring back, than keep, what you don't like. Se, we try te see that you get at lirst what you will like the better, the mere you knew of it. This is really the whele philosophy of our dealing." Second, in its goods the amount ami variety of them. There are ether houses where excellent clothing is kept, and a great deal of it; but there is none,- anywhere, that keeps se much. The dealing related above has wen the largest trade the world has yet seen. Te supply such a trade great quantity and variety of clothing are required ; and these in turn increase the trade, be cause everybody likes te choeso out r many things, rather than out of a few. This is the country of ready-made clothing. Great Britain makes the most of any European country; but there is net iu all Londen any clothing busi ness a quarter as large as that of Oak Hall. New Yerk has several large clothing businesses; 'but no ene nearly equal te that of Oak Hall; Bosten likewise. Loek back twenty years! Have wedoueyeu geed service, or net?
