Tbe Ways and Means Cjmmlitee, beaded by General Bobenok.. paid an official visit this morulng to the Heore tary of the Treasury, and had an Interview of about a half hour relative to the finances. Mr. Bontwell said he was happy to be able to lnv form the committee that no new legislation would be necessary at this session relative to tbe finances. The Treasury was in good condi tion so far as he had been able to ascertain, and he could, If necessary, go upon the street and boy bonds. The Interview with the President, The committee af.erwards proceeded to tbe White House, and called upon the President, Informing tlm that they wero glad to know from bis Chancellor of Exchequer that the pub lic finances are in good oondltlon, and that there was abundance ot money. The Tennre-ol Office Act. All Interest at the White House and deprat. menu, as well as at the Capitol, centres on the question of the repeal of the Tenure-of Otfloa act. The President has firmly resolved not to make any removals, and not to send In any nominations except to fill vacancies, until the Tenure-of Office aot is repealed. The feeling this morning among the Senators seemed to be favorable to the repeal; but those who are active In opposing It assert that a majority of tbe Senate Is against the repeal, and will, at the most, vote for a suspension or modification. There is no certainty as to bow the matter will result when it eomes to a vote. The leading members of the House assert that they will refuse ),o adopt anything relative to the Tenure of Office act, except an absolute re peal, and they are sustained by a very large majority. President Uranl received a large number of Senators and mem bers to day, prior to the hour for the regular meeting of the Cabinet. ' There was no un usual pressure, however, few being admitted to anterooms except Seualors and menioers. Reorganizing? tbe Navy. The House aval Committee met to-day and considered tbe Senate bill for reorganizing the Navy and Marine Corps. Secretary of the Navy Borle, Admiral Porter, and Captain Jackson, of the navy, were before the committee, and urged Ihe passage of the bill ns It came from the Senate. Bllsslssippi The committee, however, adjourned without taking final aotlon. The Reconstruction Committee considered tbe question of providing a new provisional government for Mississippi, and heard a umu ber of persons from that State on tbe subjeot, but came to no conclusion.
