If you’re not sure-what “ACU- I Region 4” is, I better stop for a moment and let you know or'this article will be totally worthless,* ACU-I is the Association of College Union Boards - In ternational. It is divided into area regions (Hazleton is part of Region 4) which in turn are divided into Subregions. The organization has been developed so the many Union Boards can get together, exchange new and old ideas, help growing Union Boards, and keep the idea of student-run activities a growing concern. Back to our trip. When we finally reached Morgantown, (have you ever spent six hours in a car with Ev Binns?) we found ourselves to be part of a crowd of over 450 delegates from 56 (or so) colleges and universities. We were all representing our own campuses and were there to, hopefully, bring home a variety of ideas, etc. to SUB members. It would be hard for me to tell you what Ev, Rob, and Robin found, but I can tell you my own story. The only way to describe the weekend is “super.” I met so many people, students and ad ministration members, who hold a genuine concern for the w their campuses are run. By tending workshops, enjoying the eleven showcases presented to introduce a variety of tertainment, and talking over meals, I surprisingly found we all Bad many of the sahte suc cesses and troubles. The 46 workshops were the main events of the weekend, ranging from topics on leader ship and programming to management. A few of my choices were “Leadership Among Groups” and “A Leader ship Training Package.” Faye Papalardo of the Com munity College of Baltimore gave a fantastic talk on what leadership really is and how leaders must learn to react to their members. The focal point in her talk was that a leader must not only effectively set goals and reach them, he or she must also plan, control and organize every phase of an ac tivity. This would be the goal of a Union Board. The also stressed how important it is to work together with other members of your group on any project. Some people need more en couragement, so, be patient but stay on top of things. (Thanks Faye, I really enjoyed that session). Well, the weekend was a lot of fun and a super learning ex perience, Ev, Rob, and Robin, thanks for making the weekend what it was. I loved it. Have a great day, all! Joanne.
