The team will be heading to Chestnut Ridge Golf Course, in Blairsville, PA, to contend for the title, on Oct. 4 and 5. This year, the golf team has won two of seven invitationals and placed in the top three five times. After coming off a big first place finish at the La Roche In vitational on Tuesday, the team has momentum going into the AMCC Championships. The Lions defeated its toughest con ference competition against Pitt Bradford and rival Penn State Altoona. Coach Bowen is optimistic about his team’s chances to come out on top, again. The ladies dominated the second set as they gained a lead on Grove City. The Lady Lions completely exploded to begin the third set. At one point in the match, Behrend had a 14-6 lead over the Wolverines, which was their largest lead of the game. As the match progressed, Penn State lost their composure and allowed the Wolverines to rally to a 17-17 tie. I am looking for ward to weekend, and I think we have a real shot of winning.” The boys will be led by senior captain Joe Nelson, who is looking to repeat his medalist performance this weekend. Nelson has finished in the top five in six out of seven invites, and he is shooting in the mid 70s every time he steps on the course. “Joe is a great leader, and he does everything a captain should,” Bowen said. “He keeps the team loose at the meets, but still pushes them to focus and play at their top level. Sophomores Kyle Meehl and Kevin Koerbel each have had their struggles this year, but are gradually improving and will be need to play well for the team to win the title.
