This weeks Athlete of the
Week is a stand out on the
Womens' Volleyball Team.
Carrie Grzejka is a sophomore
middle hitter from Union City
where she played three years at
Union City High School. She
was recruited to Behrend by
Coach Jan Wilson.
Carrie leads the team so far
this year with 10S kills. She has
twenty -one solo blocks also and
was a key player in a tournament
at Alfred University on
September 26th. The Lady Lions
won the tournament with Carries
efforts." Sometimes she takes
awhile, but once she gets rolling
she's one of the best hitters we
have", said Coach Wilson.
She is a Plastics Engineering
major, and is planning to stay
here at Behrend for four years.
She has a very hard schedule that
conflicts with volleyball, and

misses several hours of practice a
week because of it. This makes it
harder for Carrie to concentrate on
volleyball, but she does it.
Carrie likes the volleyball
program here at Behrend,not just
the games, but the practices also.
"Hard practices make us work
harder in games, and the team is
working together a lot better than
before", said Carrie.
One weakness of the team is
serve receiving."We have trouble
passing, and work harder at that
in practice", noted Carrie. She
also said that "Hitting is the
strong point of the team", which
is proof positive with Carrie on
the team.
With eight matches left plus
a home tournament, and the Lady
Lions sporting a 7-13 record
Carrie wants to help the team to
a winning season. If not, she is
looking forward to two more
years of playing on the team here
at Behrend, and wants to improve
each year.

With the PGA tour winding
down, it seemed appropriate for
the Penn State Behrend
intramural program to hold its
annual golf tournament.
Under ideal conditions, the
two day event, September 13th
and 20th, went on as planned at
the Downing Golf Course. The
thirty-six hole, 144 shot par
course proved to be quite a
challenge to the sixty
participants.
After all was said and done.
Housing and Food director
.James Bowen, shot a 168,
including a tournament high
round of 82 on the final day.
Pat Weiss and Josh
Fasenmeyer finished with nearly
identical scores of 171 and 172
respectively.
Weiss' second place finish
overall also resulted in his
winning of the residence hall
classification.
In the team competition,
the Lammali team of Josh
Fasenmeyer, Jim O'Camb, Pat
Sandusky, and Mike Olszewski
shot a team score of 746, giving
them an individual average of a

little over 185 for the two days.
In second place overall were
the fraternity champions, Sigma
Kappa Nu with an average of
190.
Gangsters of Love finished
a close third by averaging just
one more stroke than the second
place Sigma Kappa Nu team.
Intramural tennis has
finished its round robin play
with a total of 109 singles
players and 45 doubles teams.
The championship bracket
starts this week.
Watch out for the cross
country deadline. It's fast
approaching the October 9th
final sign up day.
The race will be run
October 12th at 5:30 p.m. A
map of the course may be
obtained in the IM Office in the
Reed Building.
Along with the falling of
the leaves and the chill in the air
comes flag football. The entry
deadline is October 16th, and the
season begins on October 20th
for men's and co-ed teams._
