Page 14 W • Athlete of the week Big Hitter Keith McFall The Collegian This weeks Athlete of the Week is a stand out on the Womens' Volleyball Team. Carrie Grzejka is a sophomore middle hitter from Union City where she played three years at Union City High School. She was recruited to Behrend by Coach Jan Wilson. Carrie leads the team so far this year with 10S kills. She has twenty -one solo blocks also and was a key player in a tournament at Alfred University on September 26th. The Lady Lions won the tournament with Carries efforts." Sometimes she takes awhile, but once she gets rolling she's one of the best hitters we have", said Coach Wilson. She is a Plastics Engineering major, and is planning to stay here at Behrend for four years. She has a very hard schedule that conflicts with volleyball, and We Want You !! This makes it harder for Carrie to concentrate on volleyball, but she does it. Carrie likes the volleyball program here at Behrend,not just the games, but the practices also. "Hard practices make us work harder in games, and the team is working together a lot better than before", said Carrie. One weakness of the team is serve receiving."We have trouble passing, and work harder at that in practice", noted Carrie. She also said that "Hitting is the strong point of the team", which is proof positive with Carrie on the team. With eight matches left plus a home tournament, and the Lady Lions sporting a 7-13 record Carrie wants to help the team to a winning season. Harriot W? 0 ; Intramurals Successful Linksters up to par Hal Coffe The Collegian With the PGA tour winding down, it seemed appropriate for the Penn State Behrend intramural program to hold its annual golf tournament. Under ideal conditions, the two day event, September 13th and 20th, went on as planned at the Downing Golf Course. The thirty-six hole, 144 shot par course proved to be quite a challenge to the sixty participants. After all was said and done. Housing and Food director .James Bowen, shot a 168, including a tournament high round of 82 on the final day. Pat Weiss and Josh Fasenmeyer finished with nearly identical scores of 171 and 172 respectively. Weiss' second place finish overall also resulted in his winning of the residence hall classification. In the team competition, the Lammali team of Josh Fasenmeyer, Jim O'Camb, Pat Sandusky, and Mike Olszewski shot a team score of 746, giving them an individual average of a Thursday, October 1, 1992 little over 185 for the two days. In second place overall were the fraternity champions, Sigma Kappa Nu with an average of 190. Gangsters of Love finished a close third by averaging just one more stroke than the second place Sigma Kappa Nu team. Intramural tennis has finished its round robin play with a total of 109 singles players and 45 doubles teams. The championship bracket starts this week. Watch out for the cross country deadline. It's fast approaching the October 9th final sign up day. The race will be run October 12th at 5:30 p.m. A map of the course may be obtained in the IM Office in the Reed Building. Along with the falling of the leaves and the chill in the air comes flag football.
