Attention Spring Graduates: Remember
to pick up your cap and gown from the
bookstore. Candidates must report to the
weight/fitness room, ground floor of Erie
Hall, -no later than 11 a.m. on May 16. In
addition, tickets and graduation
announcements should be picked up from the
Registrar's office as soon as possible.
Finals Cookie Break: Campus Ministry is
sponsoring a Finals Break with free cookies
in the residence hall lobbies as follows:
Perry Hall Tuesday, May 5; Niagara and
Lawrence Halls -- Wednesday, May 6. All
breaks are from 8 to 9 p.m.
Finals Blowout: Come and join the fun of
May Madness! There will be free games and
food, plus music and dancing tomorrow night
at Bruno's from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sponsored by
Residence Life and IRC.
Catholic Baccalaureate Picnic: The last
Catholic Mass of the semester will be held this
Sunday, May 3, at 5:15 p.m. in the
Wintergreen Cafe.
1992-93 Mentoring Program: All
students, organizations and clubs who wish to
participate in the program must sign up in
the Office of Student Activities/Union by
Friday, May 8.
New-To-You Drive: Newman Association,
IVCF, and Campus Ministry is co-sponsoring a
drive for the needy. Any one discarding
usable clothing, appliances, nonperishable
food; etc., can - place items in the boxes located
in residence hail lobbies through May 8.
Baccalaureate Mass and Picnic: A
special Eucharistic Liturgy is planned to
honor our Spring 92 graduates on May 16 at
5:15 p.m. in the Wintergreen Cafe. A picnic
follows. All are invited. R.S.V.P. at 898-6111.
"Stress: The Spice of Life": The Wellness
Center sponsors Dr. Suzanne Cherney tonight
at 8 p.m. in the Reed Lecture Hall. All
students are welcome. For more info, call 898-
6924.
Bible Study: Campus Ministry is sponsoring
a semester-long Bible study every Thursday
from 7 to 8 p.m. in Reed 116. All students are
welcome.
Free Tutoring Available: All Behrend
Students are welcome to utilize the Learning
Assistance Center's services. Student and
faculty tutors are on duty daily offering help
with many subjects. For more information
call 898-6014 or drop by the Center located on
the South Cottage.
All Commu 001 Students: Take note
Folders containing hard copies and tear
sheets are due in The Collegian office
tomorrow. Questions concerning the folders
should be addressed to Todd J. Irwin, editor.
The Collegian's annual staff dinner is
scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m at the Waterfall
Restaurant. If you are a staff member and
have not already reserved your place for the
dinner, call The Collegian office at 898-6488
and ask for Todd J. Irwin, editor or Phoebe
Bonfardine, administrative assistant.

RUB to be open
24 hours
Attempt to alleviate stress

The Reed Building will
remain open 24 hours every day
during during finals week to
accommodate the needs of
students who cannot study in
their dorm rooms or off campus.
"We're going to have the Backroom and
RUB desk open until 3 a.m. to meet the
needs of the students here."

Both the Wintergarden Cafe
and the library will stay open
until midnight, one hour past
their usual closing time. The
vending machines in the cafeteria
will remain accessible after the
midnight closing.
"We're going to have the
Backroom and the RUB desk
open until 3 a.m. to meet the
needs of the students here," said
David Shields, assistant dean of
Student Services.
Shields and his staff arc
hoping this plan will help to
alleviate some of the stress
associated with finals week.
"This is an attempt to make
finals week easier for students,
primarily commuter students who
are forgotten at times," said
Shields.
He hopes that students will
take advantage of this new plan.
"If it works this year, we'll try to
keep the building open 24 hours
for every finals week."
Coffee and doughnuts will be
served in the residence halls May
2 and 3. Waffles will be served
Monday through Wednesday of
next week to students living in
the residence hall.

Awards

his involvement in college
programs and services. Todd J.
Irwin received the Thomas H.
Turnbull award for his
outstanding service to the
college community.
Jason Bates was the recipient
of the Eric A. and Josephine
Walker Award. This university
wide honor was given to Bates
for his scholarship and
leadership.
"It was incredible. I was very
happy to have received the
award," said Bates.
Dr. Christopher Reber, dean
of student services, received the
Benjamin A. Lane Outstanding
Service Award and Karen L.
Cooper, management
information systems instructor,
took the Guy W. Wilson Award
for Excellence in Advising.
The Penn State-Behrend
Council of Fellows Faculty
Research Award was presented
to Dr. Chester Wolford,
associate professor of English.
Jonathan Hall, instructor of
physics, accepted the Penn
State-Behrend Council of
Fellows Excellence in Teaching
Award. They will both give
speeches as part of the 1992-93
Provost's Speaker Series.
