The Collegian RUB to be open 24 hours Attempt to alleviate stress by Vicky Snyder The Collegian The Reed Building will remain open 24 hours every day during during finals week to accommodate the needs of students who cannot study in their dorm rooms or off campus. "We're going to have the Backroom and RUB desk open until 3 a.m. to meet the needs of the students here." -David Shields Assistant Dean of Student Services Both the Wintergarden Cafe and the library will stay open until midnight, one hour past their usual closing time. The vending machines in the cafeteria will remain accessible after the midnight closing. "We're going to have the Backroom and the RUB desk open until 3 a.m. to meet the needs of the students here," said David Shields, assistant dean of Student Services. Shields and his staff arc hoping this plan will help to alleviate some of the stress associated with finals week. "This is an attempt to make finals week easier for students, primarily commuter students who are forgotten at times," said Shields. He hopes that students will take advantage of this new plan. "If it works this year, we'll try to keep the building open 24 hours for every finals week." Coffee and doughnuts will be served in the residence halls May 2 and 3. Waffles will be served Monday through Wednesday of next week to students living in the residence hall. Turnbull award for his outstanding service to the college community. Jason Bates was the recipient of the Eric A. and Josephine Walker Award. This university wide honor was given to Bates for his scholarship and leadership. "It was incredible. I was very happy to have received the award," said Bates. Dr. Christopher Reber, dean of student services, received the Benjamin A. Lane Outstanding Service Award and Karen L. Cooper, management information systems instructor, took the Guy W. Wilson Award for Excellence in Advising. The Penn State-Behrend Council of Fellows Faculty Research Award was presented to Dr. Chester Wolford, associate professor of English. Jonathan Hall, instructor of physics, accepted the Penn State-Behrend Council of Fellows Excellence in Teaching Award.
