Netters serve
new season with
home match
by Sue Cepicka
Collegian Staff Writer
Last year, the Behrcnd men s
tennis team finished with a 6-X
record. This year, they hope to
improve this accomplishment
with the addition of some new
talent and the return of their
number one and number two
seeds.
Mike Grignol is entering his
third season as coach of the team
and is very confident on another
successful year. Although he has
only three returning players with
match experience, he is very
positive that his new players will
develop and contribute to the
team.
When asked what the most
important factor in the winning
of a match was, Coach Grignol
quickly replied, "No doubt about
it, mental altitudes. A confident
altitude helps you to keep
r _
yourself in the game". For hi>
more experienced players, tim
attitude is not a problem, but the
younger players must develop it.
The number one player on the
team is Eric-born sophomore Bill
Schmitt. Schmitt had a
tremendous first season at
Behrend. As a freshman, Schmitt
stepped right into die number one
position on the team. His record
was 9-0 against Division HI
opponents, only losing 2 sets in
all of the matches. Schmitt is the
team leader, with all the
confidence and experience that an
older player should have.
Fellow Sophomore Chuck
Keenan holds the number two
rank in men's singles. Chuck
graduated from North Hills High
School in the Pittsburgh area,
and he brings with him extensive
match experience.
