The man, who gave the name of John Wal iug, of Pennsylvania, then presented a letter, which he Insisted gave him the light to cuter the mansion, and endeavored to force his way in. Mr. Dinsniore seized him and a desper ate stiuggle ensued. Waling attempted to draw a revolver, hut Diusmorc, who had grasped him by the throat, choked him bo vigorously that he could not use it. Htew aid dump and another employee of the house hunied to Dinsmoie's nssistance, and the lunatic was, with some dilllcnlty, overpowered and his revolver taken from him. It was a large 'sized seveu shooter, with every barrel loaded. The police were notified, and Waling or Dr. Koetliug was taken to the station and locked up. The letter which he pieseuted read as follows : "John Waling: You are hereby in formed that Dr. John Noetllng is lawfully elected president of the United States, and occupies the White House every day. Trotting about ou the - floor, the children spied him and a buzz of whispers called the teacher's attention ; "Now, children," said she, iu a kiud and motherly way, "keep very quiet every one of you. Don't move nor say a word if the mouse comes toward you. He is perfectly harmless." The scholars were all very quiet and watched the capers of the niouso breathlessly. The teacher had scarcely fiuished her brave address when the mouse ran directly for her. This was too much, and the teacher screamed and yelled with 'fright, and ran as if a pack of adders were in mad pursuit. The whole school hcio Hipon became uproarious and the mouse was boss of the situation. The little fellow was so delighted that he stood up ou his liiud legs and danced a short hornpipe and then skedaddled through the doorway. 'Scattered by an Enraged Elephant. Last night, just after the circus perform auce, and while the elephants, were being driven through the streets, just as they reached the corner of Hill and Broadway, some thoughtless person gave one of the animals a piece of tobacco. The elephant ilrad no sootier noticed what the tobacco 'was when be instantly became infuriated and made a rush for his teaser, right through a crowd of 400 or 500 people, break ing loose from his keeper. Everybody scattered, of course, and the -scene presented a frightful stampede. For tunately, no one was seriously hurt, and the maddened elephant was finally cap tured. Things looked rather squally, though, for a while, as the elephant was in thorough earnest, and roared and bellowed with terriflo rage. Orifiin, Ga., Aeuu. An Honest Man. A very Considerate Woman. The Cleveland Press says : Mrs, Mary .Fry, who skipped from Unionville with Jed Davis, her husband's farm hand, is the most considerate " eloper" on record. She left a note recommending ber husband to obtain a divorce at once aud marry a cer tain widow, who, she knew, would be good to the seven small Fry left in his care. CaTTha Bellefonte Watchman, carries ''terror into a good many homes by relating the sad death of a little daughter of John -Dunkleberger, of Pleasant Gap, Centre county, from the effects of eating pop corn. The child ate a handful of the corn and soon after was attacked by coughing and vomiting, -dyiug the next morning. It is probable that the little oue got a grain of com in her windpipe and that her death - was caused by a broken blood vessel, bro ken by the Btrain of the vomiting. I A Hammock Wild Way.
