Administrator. Lewis Potter, Attorney, April 1, 1H7U. fit mm SCHWARTZ SJ" Under the Hampshire Tax law two hogs to a family are exempt. That would exempt the whole family In lotiie cases. fir There la a man who saya he has not slept for fifteen years, and that he lies and thinks the whole night. We can vouch for his lying, If for no other part of his story. tt3r"That was a' finished sermon," said an adorer to an Indifferent as they wended their way from chuch. " Yes," replied the other with a yawn, "but do you know I thought It never would be." O" A drunken Congressman said to Horace Greeley one day, "I am a self made man." "Then, sir," replied the philosophical Horace, " that relieves the Almighty of a great responsibility." . i ttm IHT A junior met a rival who was somewhat advanced In years, and wish ing to annoy him, Inquired how old he was. " I can't exactly tell," replied the other; " I can Inform you that an ass is older at twenty than a man at sixty." t$"A young lady, who ought to know, accounts for the disposition of the average young fellow to put his arm around a girl's waist by the supposition that he is looking for that lost rib that was taken from him so long ago. One was a Baptist and the other was a Congregatlonallst. The waiter asked them what they would order. " A little dipped toast," said the Bap tlst. " You may give me toast, also," said the other, cheerfully ; " but don't dip it sprinkle with a little butter." Cif " How did you come to get mar ried?" asked a man of a very homely friend. "Well, you see," he replied, "after I'd vainly tried to win several girls that I wanted, I finally turned my attention to one that wanted me, and then it didn't take long to fix things." Did you ever watch a cross-eyed man playing billiards V It reminds us of the darkey who held a cow for a cross eyed butcher to hit on the head with an axe. Pete observing the man's eyes alarmingly inquired, "You gwlne to hit where you look?" "Yes." "Den" said thedarkey, "hold dlscowyouself." The following is the latest in Cali fornia: " Say, Tat did you see Dinnis 5"' " Why Dinnis V Who's Dinnis ?" . " Why, Dinnis Kearney." " And who is Dinnis Kearney ?" " Why, Dinnis Kearney, don't you know Dinnis Kearney '" " No, what does he do ?". "Be dad, he don't do nothing; he's a working man." Recently a young man was pre sented in a family where there is a marriageable daughter, and as soon as he had taken his leave the friend who had introduced him said to the father; "Well, how would he suit you for a son-in-law, ehr"" " Veiy well indeed," said the father. " All right ; suppose he comes round to-morrow and proposes?" Bald the father with great dignity; "To-morrow? Pooh, pooh; what ar you thinking of ? That would be inde cent haste. Say the day after to-morrow." A Water Haul. I knew a man once Jake Mason who went to a donation where six farmers were to contribute a jug of milk apiece. Well, one man, a very mean man, thought it would not make any difference if he contributed water in place of milk ; so he filled up a jug with water and took it to the donation. When he got there he turned it over the bung and it ran into a barrel where all the farmers had poured their milk. Now what do you think was the result ? Why, every one of the six farmers happened to be as mean as Jake Mason. They all brought water. He Knew He Was Married. " How do you know the defendant is a married man ? Were you ever at his house?" asked the Judge. " No sir." " Do you know him personally?" . "No sir." " Did you know his wife ?" " No sir." " Did anybody ever tell you they were married?" " No sir ; but when I see a man and woman come to the same church regu larly for three years, occupy the same pew, and have a hymn-book apiece to sing out of, I don't want to see no mar rlage certificate from them. I can swear to their relationship all the time." Verdict for the plaintiff.
