8 ' THE TIMES, NEW BL00MEIEL1), TA.. lEMlUAltY 25, 1871). Frozen to a Trcstle-Brldgo. WKEDsroitT, N. Y., Feb. IX A moat rcmai kutilo accident happened to a train ri Hie Houtlicin Central road, near bore last night. Two londod Bnd thirty empty nonl cftrs drawn by a Hood locomotive left P.ilr Haven and proceeded safely until tlie oiossIiir of Muskrat Creek was reached. Here it was found I lint the water, back ing up from Boneca Iiiver, which is unusu ally high for thia season, had ovei (lowed the track about four Inches. When almost aoross the trestle the locomotive drivers re fused to "bite" std the train came to a utandHtlll. Iu a moment every wheel was tronoii in its place. The train had enteied tlio water just us it was on the point of congealing, and the instant the train stop ped the conducting propel ties of ' the iron proved an elUcient aid tocomplete the work. After several hours chopping about the drivers and tracks the engine was loosened ud came to 'Wcedspoit. From here two engines were sent just after dnybrcak. Ar ving at the creek, a third engine, from 'air Haven, was seen on the opposite side of the creek. Then the chopping and shov elling of Ice began. The two engines would hitch on to one car, litterally jerk it out, and the workman cleaned the track of toe, only to have it ngaiu coveted by freez ing water coming up from below. After tho ilrat start everything once loosened had to be kept moving lest the ice should once more fasten it. After the cars had all beeu started tho three locomotives undertook to shove them up the grade and out of the slough. But this was not so easy. A dim of ice constantly formed on tho rails, causing the drivers to slip. The trim) moved one way, and stopped. The whistleB screuched, ami it swayed back ward. One minute of idleness, and the ico would fusieu every one of the hundred and fifty wheels again., The mgtres shook, rattled, jumped on the icy rails. Whore the throttles were not drawn with perfect concert of action there would be a jar, as if everything would bo toru iu Bhretls. At last, when the iron g hints seemed ready to give up for very exhaustion in the last thrust of two rods the steam in our boiler ran down from 130 to 1C5 pounds to the iuch ihe wheels hugged the rails, and the train was moved clear of the water. The viatcli i s rhowid 9 o'clock. A Dog Detective. The residence of Dr. l . Uiestaud, at Millersville, Pa., was lately burglarious ly entered wIiHe tho family were quietly asleep in their beds. The bold intruder bored a bole iu the outer cellar door, through which he managed to insert some instrument and pusb back the inside bolt. Id the cellar he found an ax, with which he Cut a hole In the kitchen door at the head of the collar stairs, and so succeeded in unlocking the door. In the kitchen he found and appropriated to his own use a pair of boots and tweuty-five cents of milk money. In the kitcheu was the due tor's dog, small and gentle, quite unable to cope with a burglar, but, as the sequel will hbow, possessed of that sagacity which often is more effective than mere brute strength. After the burglar had thorough ly inspected tho lower precincts of the house, with tho indifferent result abovo stated, be bethought himself of the more promising regions above. But no sooner had be opened tho door leading up stairs than the Utile dog began bis part in the drama. Quietly had that dog looked on while the villian prowled about on the 'first floor; without any audible protest had be seen his master's boots and the milk money of his mistress stolen before his very eyes ; evidently the opening of the up-stairs door was what he bad waited and hoped for. Unostentatiously insinu ating bis little body into the crack of the door made by the burglar in opening it, the dog paused noiselessly up to the doc tor's chamber, and had told bim of the robbery below and the danger above before the cautious thief had got balf way up. Of course the doctor sprang to the rescue on the instant, and made some noise in doing so. The burglar heard the noise, hastily retreated, and made good bis escape. But the bouse was saved, and .wived by the dog, iu a mauuer that would have reflected credit upon a two-legged detective. fiJ"A prominent physician of Peru, Ind., was called to the country last Saturday to see a child, a few mouths old, but before his arrival the child had died and had been laid out. Directly be came in the mother, noticing the child's bead was lying a little crooked, undertook to straighten it, when the child gasped. This attracted the doc tor's attentiou and he began to question them as to the sickness and treatment of the child. They told bim the child had a bad oold, and they gave the child some patent cough syrup. It giew worse ; they thought it bad the croup; they gave it more of the cough syrup. The doctor saw ta a moment the situation. The child was poisoned by opium. He prescribed strong coffee as au antidote, and soon the little one was running about the house. A Cock Fip,hting Justice. A cock fight took place Saturday near Irouton, Ohio, in theollioe of a justice of the peace.
