8 THE TIMES, NEW BLOOM FIELD, PA., DECEMBER 17, 1878. . A Woman's Strango Story. Mi Tessle Hunt of Now York a young lady of about 20 years, in a mtisio teacher. Among hur iupllH whs the daughter of Mrs. Kishy, a widow of Independent for tune, wild lives with her son David It. at No. S40 East 112th strcot. The son wni for merly a salesman fur Tiffany & Co., but lout li In situation. When Mint Hunt was engaged as mnslo tenoher for bis siHter be became enamored of her and paid ber marked attentiou. Miss Hunt did not re. jeot bis suit, but her parents, when they heard of It, forbade ber to encourage him and udvlscd her to discontinue the lessons to Miss Risby. She, however, refused to give up bor pupil and still mot David, al" though Bhe repeatedly told him that ber parents' aversion to him was an Insupera ble bnr to their union. Still she showed ru interest In his welfaio that mnde him refleot that " love laughs at locksmiths." Recently he had pressed bis suit warmly and had offered to elope with her, but Mr. and Mrs. Hunt Bay Unit their daughter refused to bo married clandestinely. A week ago Risby met Miss Hunt and, after reiterating bis proposal to olopo, told the young woman that he loved her bo well that rather tbau lose he would kill her and cut his own throat. Miss Hunt was bo alarmed nt this that she conferred with ber mother and agreed to discontinue hor lessons to Miss Risby. About 0 o'clock Saturday morning Miss Hunt went to Mi's. Risby's for the last time. While nIio was preparing to givo MUs Risby hor lastlossou David came into the parlor, called his sister aside and sent her on a pretended errand. As soon as she was gone be seized Miss Hunt by llio arm aud said If she valued her life she must go with him and bo married. Miss Hunt struggled at (list, but was frightened onto submission when the young mau drew a razor aud declared that if she tesisted him be would cut her throat. Then Bhe -eudeavored to gain time, hoping to meet a police officer iu the street. It is not neces sary to say that she was disappointed iu that. Young Risby half led ber and half dragged her to the residence of the Rev. Samuel II. Virgin, pastor of the Harlem Congregational Church. Tlio clergymen summoned a seivant nnd another person as witnesses and the niurringe ceremony was performed, Miss Hunt showed no re luctance that awakened suspicion on tho part of tho clergyman, but satisfying her conscience by nodding when asked " Wilt thou take this man for thy lawful hus band?." When the ceremony was over Risby was so delighted atjtho success of bis scheme that he was takou off his guard and allowed his bride to go away on the pretext that she had a music lesson still to give and on her promise to return in a couple of hours. Miss Hunt went immediately to ber pastor, the Rev. Halsey Moore, of the Second Baptist Church, and, confiding hor secret to bim, Rud Bought bis advice. He direct ed her to inform her parents, and last night they decided to invoke the aid aud protection of the police. A Floating Grist Mill. A small steamor is being built at Owen Hound, Ontario, which is to serve the dou ble purpose of a steamer aud grist mill. Along certain portions of the Canadian coast there is a lack of mills for griuding the grain, and tho builders of this rural craft expect by advertising that they will appear at certain points at fixed dates, all the farmers will present themselves with their grain, and when this is ground the vessel will proceed to the next town, carry ing freight and passongors, aud also grind ing the toll that may have been gathered. In the winter time tho boat will tie up at one of the largo towns, and proceed with the milling business, no capital thus being allowed to remain locked up during the long winter of tho northern latitude. . The Bulk of Silver. Every one knows that silver is bulky, but few persons are aware how bulky it is. A bag of 1000 412J grain dollars weighs 69 3-16 pounds avoirdupois. Accordingly one hundred thousand of those dollars weighs not far from three tons. If a mer chant or banker having a payment of $30, 600 to make is compelled by circumstances to pay with silver dollars, he would need a vehicle as strong and as large as an ordi nary coal cart (made to carry a ton of coal) to transport them, and if this should be heaped up, no more than 33,000 silver dollars could be loaded on it. Trenton, December 7. This morning, in the court of errors and appeals, Chief Justice Beasley rendered the unanimous opinion of the court in the Hunter murder case' to the effect that all the exceptions taken by Mr. George M. Robesou to the ruling of the court below were not sustained and the judgment was affirmed. Conse quently if the court of pardons or the Gov ernor does not interfere, Hunter will be hanged on the 10th of next January. The last session of the present term of the court of pardons was held this afternoon. If Hunter's friends petition for a commuta tion of sentence a special session must be called by the governor if be thinks it pru dent or necessary. ASSIGNEE'S SALE OF VALUABLE REAL ESTATE!
