HUNrS ElElEDY y 'Spell love," said a young man to Lis girl the other night. "Y-o-u," she timidly essayed. The courtship had been a protracted one, but they are to be married now. Hf'Won't you ladles tell me what you are talking about," said a fop. I'm all ears." One of the ladles looked at him sharply, and said : "Bo you are ; you ought never to get your hair cut." 07 A justice of the peace issued an attachment, and sent it to the constable of a neighboring village for service. In a few days the writ was returned, with the following explanatory note : The party named within started for heaven last week. He Is now out of my jurisdiction, and left nothing subject to attachment except a widow. C B , Constable. C3FThe other day an Irishman was passing the grave-yard, where he saw two men, friends of a countryman who had just died. They were seeking for a burial lot. "Who's dead?" he asked. "John Leary," was the reply. "When did he die?" "Yesterday." "Well, bedad, he had a foine day for it." A Thoughtless Chap. They were talking about the weight of diflerent individuals in a certain fam ily, aud the daughter's young man, who was present, spoke up before he thought, and said : "I tell you that Jenny isn't so very light either, although she looks so." And then he looked suddenly consious and blushed ,and Jenny became absorbed lu studying a chromo on the wall. A Wife Wanted. A San Francisco paper has received a letter from a soldier In Idaho stating that he wishes to secure a wife. "My time," says this Benedict, "is nearly out, and I intend to settle in this coun try, I Intend to start a chicken ranch. I want a wife to take care of young chickens. I have got money. My wife will not have much to do only milk nlnecows, feed 600 young chickens, chop her firewood, cook three meals every day, and the rest of the time she can go out among her neighbors." Sg"A Cinclnati man is responsible for the following: Some years ago, at the funeral of a friend, I was seated In a car riage with a person who in face carried all the habiliments of woe. I was not aware he was acquainted with the de ceased. I became inquisitive. Says I, "Are you a relation?" "No." "A friend?" "No." In Yankee fashion, I said, "Why attend his funeral and look so sad?" He said, "In fact I am troubled with dyspepsia. My doctor advised me to ride. I am too poor to hire a carriage and therefore ride free to funerals." A cheerful situation for a dyspeptio we should say. CJ"A good story Is told of one of the leading clergymen of Albany, who is a devoted ejuestrian. A new horse had been sent him from the livery, and to quiet Its frlskiness the gamin who brought It was shouting; "Whoa, Em ma!" The reverend gentleman, in all Innocence, asked if that was the ani mal's name, aud met with an affirma tive response. Riding through the park the animal became restless, and the bystanders were convulsed with laugh ter to hear the good dominie repeat ing In the most earnest and somewhat excited tones: "Whoa, Emma ! Whoa, Emma !" A Too Sudden Conversion. An elderly gentleman of benign appearance has of late been distributing religious tracts in the street cars, and yesterday at least one case of quickened conscience was brought to public notice. A young man entered the car, paid his nlckle, and was handed a tract headed, "Are you a sinner?" He turned pale at once, read a few lines, and suddenly called out "Yes, I am! I put a bad nlckle in the fare-box but now I'll begin a new life by being honest. Here, driver, change this half dollar and I'll pay my fare over again!" The change was given and he paid, but after riding a block or so he left the car to see a man on the walk. The passengers thought It a wonderful case, and all were deeply interested, when the driver suddenly called out "Hang me, If this 'ere half dollar ain't bogus !" So it was.
