He took it under his arm and stopped in at several places to discuss politics aud things, and when he got borne and attempted to exhibit the phonograph to his wife, that deprav ed instrument remarked, in several dis tinct tones: "Set 'em up for the boys, bar-keeper. Whoop, hoo-ray 1 Yer' a brick 1 Fill the flowing bowl! Who's afraid of the old woman V" A sick man, slightly convalescing, was asked by a pious friend who his physician was. " He replied : " Dr. Jones brought me through." "Ko, no," said his friend, "Ood brought you out of your illness not the doctor." " Well, maybe he did, but I am cer tain the doctor and not Ood will charge me for it." 3T A little man had threatened to horse-whip a big man. Whip ln hand, he entered a restaurant where the big man was eating, but after a short survey of the back of his enemy, he retreated, and when asked why he had not carried his threat into execution, he replied, " Oh, hang it, that fellow is twice as big as he was yesterday." 1T Mr. Tremmless: "I assure you, Mrs. Jones, I would never go out at all if I could help it, in this dreadful climate one day hot the next cold. What miserable wretched weather we have." Mrs. J.: " We do, Indeed, Mr. Tremm less, but try and bear up, It's better than none, you know." - gj" The society that cultivates friend ship with animals might quote this fact : A little Florida boy tamed an alligator to come to the shore and take food out of his hand ; it became so fond of the boy that one morning the alligator took the food and the little Florida boy too.
