A statement is published in the Carlisle Vohmterr, saying that the Tost Mistress at Landinburg had been arrested for embezzlement. The statement Is entirely false and does gross injustice to Mrs. Connor, the Post Mis tress, there not being any charge or sus picion of wrong connected with that of fice. The lady referred to and her friends are justly very indignant that such a charge should be published. Where Is He? Yesterday morning a little after 2 o'clock the en gineer of the Philadelphia, express train, eastward bound, discovered at a point nbouta mile west of Marysvllle, a man lying on the west track. The train was stopped and the man picked up and placed in the baggage car. The man, when discovered, was in a sinking con dition and died before the train reached HarrrlHburg. He had evidently fallen from a freight train going west, as one of his legs was cut off and he had other wounds upon his body. The remains were taken In charge by Coroner Porter and placed in the dead house. An in quest was held over the body and the jury rendered a verdict in accordance with the facts. The remains were placed in a coffin furnished by the county and were interred at the almshouse yester day afternoon. There was nothing found about the man to lead to his identifica tion. His age was apparently thirty five or thirty-eight years, and his height five feet eight Inches. He was very poorly clad and wore dark clothes. Kraflenberg, was arrested in this place by Officer Wetzel on Thursday evening. During theduy Officer Hays had receiv ed a telegram stating that a heavy rob bery had been committed i near Camp bellstown, Lebanon county, on the Monday previous. The telegram also gave a minute discrlption of live men who were supposed to be tbe guilty parties. These men came to Carlisle and spent money very freely with fust wo men, which aroused suspicion In the minds of the Officers that all was not right. Accordingly, on Thursduy night, a descent was made on a house of ill fame where the supposed robbers were having a good time ; but Kraflenberg was the only one captured, the others having left town before a raid was made on the house. While Kraffenberger was being taken to Justice Zinn's office by Officer Wetzel, he made an attempt to escape. The accused was sent to jail to await the arrival of a Lebanon county ofllcer. On Saturday an ofllcer arrived here and identified the prisoner as one of the men concerned In the heavy rob bery, when he was taken to Lebanon for trial. Kraflenberg had a large quan tity of gold and silver in his possession when arrested. His companions in crime have not been arrested up to the present w ri ti ii g. Carlisle Volun teer. Dr. Bra zee happened to be passing the home of Mr. C. shortly after the accident and was called in to administer surgical aid. Sunday night was the most unpleasant night we experienced this winter. The fire blazed ten feet above the chim ney and the high wind carried the sparks clear across the lots Into the stables of Judge Elder and Alexander Ellis. Very providentially, however, the sparks fulled to ignite the buildings, thus saving at least one-fourth the town from de structlon. Mlffllntoum l)rm. ct Jirg, California Letter. The following extract from a letter by a former resident of this place will interest some of our readers : Sacramento, March 11th, 1H7. Mr Dear Fatiikr : I am still at this place and enjoying usual health. A great political revolution is taking place In this State at present. The Worklngruen's party is being vic torious in all the elections, and they will soon run the State, and then I am of the opinion it will be a more tolerable place for a poor man. At present cor rupt corporations and Chinese slave holders run the State In their own In terest. Rain has been so abundant thlsBeason that the levees would not hold the water in the rivers, and the great valley of the Sacramento is covered with about five feet of water. It Is a sight from the dome of the Capitol, to look out upon an ocean of water as far as the eyes will carry. Many thousands have been left homeless, and their live stock all drowned. The rains have abated and the water is lowering, although the prospcctB for crops are gone for this season in this valley. Yet the ralnB will prove a god send to those portions of the State which were not inundated, and the present year will be one of great prosperity. . Your affectionate Son, . John W. Maokk.
