The newly established post office, named Marsh Hun is in Tuscarora twp., instead of Haville, and is on the route from Ickesburg to Millerstown. The heavy rains of Thursday night and Friday caused the streams to rise rapidly. In many parts of the county travel was obstructed by damage to bridges. There will be a Murphy Temperance meeting held in the church at Sandy Hollow, about four miles from this borough on next Wednesday and Thurs day evenings. Five hundred dollars in silver three cent pieces was the amount remitted to the assistant United States treasurer at Philadelphia a few dayB ago by the Har risburg post master. Henrv T. Swarner. of this countv. has purchased the farms belonging to Tobias Martin, situated in Peters tWD.. near Mercersburg, Franklin county, one of which contains 130 acres, and the other liU acres. The amount paid was $20,000. There is a rise in the price of calico and muslin. The reason for this is that the great surplus in the markets has been nearly worked off, whilst many mills have been and still are idle. It is expected there will be a rise of ten per cent on all domestic goods. The fourth annual quarterly meeting of New Bloomfield Circuit M. E. Church will be held at UMindisburg, next Sun day. Quite a catastrophe happened to the District Attorney on Monday morning. Xot only him, but all the force he could get was unable to obtain possession of his office. The enemy was so well se creted that for a time all attempts to learn his position were useless. Skir mishers were finally thrown out who discovered the trouble to be a dead cat in the loft. The remains were carefully removed, and our friend McAllister is again in full possession. A Weigh They Had. The question with the above title in last week's Times has brought in many replies, the weight being put at from 50 up to 200 pounds. The correct answer is fll 3-seventh pounds. Unfortunate. One of the workmen at Sherman's creek bridge, a few days ago dropped his pocket book containing about twenty-five dollars, into the creek, at a point where the water is about six feet deep. Up to the present writing all attempts to recover the mis sing treasure have been futile. Record. Where to Stop. McNemar, in Centre twp., and after cutting the lath so that they could remove the meat, utole four pieces. In taking these pieces out they knocked down the pole on 'which it hung so that the balance drop. ed down out of reach. The Mlddleburg Tout says : The, barn and other outbuildings of Emanuel Duck, of Middlecreck twp., were con sumed by lire on Sunday morning the 17th inst. It Is supposed the fire is the work of an incendiary, as the family of Mr. Duck found a sack of flour stowed away in the barn on Saturday, which they removed and in its stead placed a bag filled with stones and chaff. This bag was found some distance from the burned buildings the morning after the fire. There was a small Insurance. Discovery of Another Cave. A Lancas ter county paper says : Recently, while Mr. Speece was quarrying stone for lime burning purposes on the farm of Samuel Worst, near Pequea meeting-house, Sal isbury twp., he uncovered the entrance of what proved to be a remarkable cave. The entrance was only large enough for a man to crawl in , but after proceeding a distance of twenty feet it becomes large enough for a man to walk erect, and a short distance further on rises to a height of thirty-one feet and varies from eleven to eighteen feet in width, and is four hundred yards long. The roof and sides of the cave are covered with stalactites, some of which are three feet long. A narrow passage leads from this chamber to anothe r which Is about six times as large and bus an icy-cold stream of water running through it. In it is also a beautiful lake, about one hun dred and fifty yards long and about two thirds as wide. A small stream runs from the lake and empties Into tbe large one. In the lake several small fish were seen, which on being caught were thought to be -sightless. The cave has not yet been fully explored, and more curious features may be discovered. A Tew more than half the voters being present. Those who were there, were, for once In 25 years allowed to vote as they understood (the monkeys not being present to ride them to tbe ballot box.) We had but two tickets In the field Demo cratic and Greenback. We believe that the people or rather the leaders of the old parties have been reading the Acts of the U. 8. Senate and examining the vote lately taken by that body, on the MathewV Silver Resolution and have imitated their thieving masters of the East, by joining the two old parties together, and supporting the Democratic nominees. All right, gentlemen, you have dug your own graves you are helping to twist the Financial rope about your own necks, still tighter and tighter, in order that you may be lowered to hard pan, your properties seized by the sherlil', and sold to your robbers, that you and your families may go ragged, hungry and starved. Hut mark the prediction, when the year 1880 conies, you will be hurled out of existence, and burled In the grave of oblivion, like the worthless dog, unhonored and unsung.
