8 THE TIMES, NEW BLOOM EI ELI), PA., FEB11UAKY 5, 1878. An Infernal Machine in a School. .Tosoh Van Noj, or Port JervU, id a teacher In tlie district school at Logstown, in Greenville twp., Delaware co., N. Y. Certain of his boy scholars being detected at various times throwing a baseball from ono to the other, the teacher announced that he would conllscate all balls he found in the posxnsHion of any scholars. On Wednesday last he saw a ten-year-old boy jilaying with a ball and threw It in the StOTO. On Friday last the same boy was , discov making a display of another ball. This the teacher took and was about to throw it in the stove when the manner of the boy and others about him struck him as pecu liar and he laid the ball In his desk. lie subsequently took it apart, and was startled to And that the ball cover contained a seal ed tin box filled with powder in quantity sufficient tohave demolished the school house. - - - Groundless Objections. Home having tried "put up" medicines without obtaining the relief promised, in discriminately condemn them. Is this fair ? Suppose a judge should argue that because (he last three prisoners had been found guilty, he should condemn the fourth with out trial. Is not such reasoning absurd ? And yet are not those who condemn all medicines, because they have been deceived in one or two, equally as unjuBt? The family medicines manufactured by It. V. Pierce, M. IX, Buflalo, N. Y., are the purest and best in the market. His Golden Medical Discovery has, for many years, being the standard remedy in all fafleotions of the liver, stomach, mid blood, and when used in connection with Dr. Sago's Catarrh Itemed; effects a speedy cure of catarrh. Occasionally a pot-pie dinner is served at the Berks county Almshouse, which re quires the following ingredients : The slaughtered calves, making about 2(i0 pounds of veal, eighty pounds of beef ; one and a quarter barrels of flour, and from eight to ten bushels of potatoes. This is decidedly a Berks county pot-pie, and is regarded by the inmates of the Almshouse as a boss dinner, the aroma of which is diffused throughout the long balls of the numerous apartments of the institution. For the seasoning of this pot-pie several pounds of pepper, a large quantity of salt, and about a bushel basketful of parsely, celery leaves, sweet marjoram and other herbs are chopped up together aud mixed with meat and potatoes, contributing large ly to the savory ordor. A Case of Consumption. East Stoxeham, Me., May 12, 1873. Messrs, Seth W. Fowle & Sous : Gentlemen I feel it my duty to write a few words in favor of Dr. Wist ars Balsam of Wild Cherry. In the early part of last Winter I took a severe cold, aud shortly afterward a distressing cough was added lo it. My friends did everything they could forme, butwithout avail. The best physicians that could be procured did not relieve me, 'and my cough continued with me all through the Winter with increasing frevority. I spit blood three or four times a day, and my friends considering my case hopeless, gave me up as a confirmed con sumptive. I was in this.condition when I heard of Dr. Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry. I began its use, and before I bad taken half a bottle of it my cough and all my other troubles left me, and I was cured. I feel so truly indebted to this great remedy for what it has done for me that I send you this voluntary testimony, hoping it may be the moans of inducing others, who are (suffering as I was, to make use of it. It is the best remedy for lung complaints that I have ever beard of, and I am constantly recommending it to my friends. Mits. MEi.usi M. Ball. 50 cents and $1 a bottle.
