8 THE TIM ES, N E W BLOOM FIELD, PA., JANUARY 15, 1878. A Remarkable Clock.- There la now on exhibition in York tlie most wonderful clock la the world. It was built by Stephen 1). Engle, a watchmaker, at Ilazleton, Pa. He is about 45 year of n go and was about twenty years In per fecting the clock. Mr. lteid paid Engle 3, 000 for it. Engle never saw the Btras Imrg clock. In fact, lie bus not traveled more than two hundred miles from borne nt nny time. This clock stands eleven feet high. At its bsse it Is about four feet wide and at the top about two. It is about three feet deep at the base, gradual ly less towards the top. Its colors are dark brown and gold. The Stranburg clock Is thirty feet high, yet Its mechanism is not so Intricate nor has it as many fig ures as the Hazleton clock. The Btras burg clock's figures are about 3 feet high,' nnd the American clock about 0 inches. Three minutes before the hour a pipe organ Inside the clock plays an anthem. It has five tunes. Bells are then rung, and when the hour is struck double doors In nu alcove open and a figure of Jesus ap pears. Double doors to the left then open, and the apostles appear slowly, one by one, in procession. As they appear and pass Jesus, they turn towards him. Jesus bows, the apostle turns again nnd proceeds through the double doors in alcove on the right. As Peter approaches, Satan looks out of a window above und tempts him. Five times the devil appears, and . when Peter passes, denying Christ, the cock flaps il s wings and crows. When Judas appears Satan comes down from his window and follows Judas out in the pro cession, and then goes back up tJ his placo to watch Judas, appearing on both sides. As the procession has passed Judas and the three ' Marys disappear and the doors are closed. The scene can be re peated seven times in nn hour if necessary, and the natural motion of the clock pro duces it four time, per hour, whereas the Strasburg procession is made but once a day, at 12 o'clock. Below the piazzi is tbo main dial, about 13 inches in diameter. To its right is a figure of Time with an hour-glass. Above this is a wiudovr, at which appears figures representing Youth, Manhood and Old Ago. To the left of the dial is a skeleton representing Death. When the hour hand approaches the first quarter Time reverses his bour-glass and strikes one on a bell with his scythe when another bell inside responds ; then Child hood appears instantly. When the hour hand approaches the second quarter or half hour there are beard tbo strokes of two bells. Then Youth appears and the organ plays a hymn. After this Time, strikes two and reverses his hour-glass when two bells respond insido. Ono minute after this a chime of bells is beard, when a folding door opens in the upper porch and one at the right of the court, when the Saviour comes walking out. Then the apostles appear in procession. The clock also tells of the moon's changes, the tides, the seasons, days, and day of the month and year, and the signs of the zodiao ; and on top a soldier in armor is constantly on guard walking back and forward. As the hours advance Manhood, Old Age and Death take part in the pano rama. Regrets I How often is heard the expression " How differently would I have acted, had I my life to live over." Nothing vainer was ever said. Years only bring experience. Had the despondent sufferer from a long settled cough, for instance, who finds that his life is growing a curse to him, avoided this exposure or adopted that course of medication, he imagines that it would have resulted differently. He keeps on however in the beaten paths of worthless medicines without benefit whon he might secure Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry from any druggist, and it would at once soothe bis agony of breathing and cough ing, and removing the exasperating cause, restore health to the tissues of that and lungs. Everywhere, and always has this Balsam relieved and in a majority of in stances effected cures where the sick ones Lave been given over to despair and death. 50 cents and $1 a bottle. Sold by all druggists. Rome, N. Y., Jan. 5. This morning Kiron Carroll, a prominent lawyer, while on his way to the depot to take the train for Camden, N. Y., to attend the funeral of bis brother, Hon. George K. Carroll, dropped dead from heart disease a short distance from his residence. He was found by a news carrier, lying in the snow. A remarkable circumstance in connection with this is that Hon. George K. Carroll, his brother, to whose fuueral he was going, ulso dropped doad, from the same cause, January 2. Their father also died from the same cause, some years a go. tST Mr. N. K. Rooks, of Suiupter co., Ga, was struck by lightning and made un conscious lust week. When his senses return. ed be found the mule attached to Mb buggy peemiugly doad was really alive, bis urn krella torn to pieces, a tree five feet off shattered and a little child knocked down. Htakkis, Mass., Jau. 7. Badie Bharp and Etta Hazeltine, aged respectively elev on and fifteen, broke through the ioe on a nond near here, yesterday, and were drowned.
