Riley, director of forensics at Elizabethtown College. The contest, which in- volves students from Eliza- bethtown, Millersville State, Franklin & Marshall, and Lancaster Bible colleges, will be held today, Wednes- day, December 10, with final competition beginning at 6:30 p.m. Included will be Lincoln- Douglas debate, persuasive speaking, and extemporan- eous speaking, all on topics of current and historic interest, Dr. Riley said. The event is open to the public without charge. Students participating are competing for U.S. savings bonds, a special medal struck from the occasion by the U.S. Department of Treasury, and the right to advance to the sectional contest at York County Historical Society on Feb. 20-21, 1976. Judges have been recruit- ed from.Elizabethtown and Lancaster, and the savings bonds have been donated by various civic organizations. CHIQUES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH by Judy Mark Troy The bicentennial commit- tee at Chiques United Methodist Church has been preparing many different and interesting events for the 1976 year. February 22, 1976--a play ““The Voice of America’’ is being planned to be pre- sented during the church service by church members. They will be wearing colon- Immediately following the service, a con- gregational dinner will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shaeffer and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Henry are co-chairpersons for the din- ner. On May 23, 1976, a musical by Flo Price, “‘I Like The Sound Of America’ will be presented by the youth of the church during the worship service. Mrs. Ray Wiley, Sr. will be directing the youth. Mr. John W. W. Loose, will be presenting a lecture on ‘‘Historical Lancaster County’’ during the worship service on July 4, 1976. Mr. Loose is secretary of the Lancaster Historical Society. Plans for an old-fashioned church picnic after the service are being completed November 7, 1976, the 17th anniversary of the church will be celebrated by having the youth--the future of the church--participate. Plans are being completed for this celebration. Our aim, through these special programs, is to find that old time religion. Why did our forefathers fight so desperately for the freedom of religion when today many of us’ take ‘that freedont for granted. Perhaps we can all December 10, 1975 become closer to our God through the realization of the importance of that old time religion. Praise God!! We look forward to our special year ahead--1976. CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM AT ST. MARK’S CHURCH by W. Richard Kohler The annual Christmas Program by the boys and girls of the Children’s Department of St. Mark's United Methodist Church School of Mount Joy will be held on Sunday evening, December 14, 1975. Starting time is 6:00 p.m. Recita- tions, songs, group exer- cises, and playlets will be featured as the children retell the Christ-event. Members of the congrega- tion, parents, and friends will share in the singing of Christmas carols. The pro- gram is under the direction of department superinten- dents and is coordinated through Mrs. Miriam Gib- ble, the church’s Children’s Age-Level Coordinator. After the program, there will be fellowship time for everyone with refreshments in the church’s basement hall. Christmas Eve Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m., and 11:00 a.m. At the earlier service the church’s Chancel Choir will sing a short Christmas Cantata from Colonial America en- titled ‘‘Matchless Is Thy Form’ by William Selby. The Wesley Singers will be featured at the late service, and youth will participate throughout the worship. An open invitation is extended to the community to attend these functions at St. Mark’s Church. HOLIDAY FOOD BAZAAR The Episcopal Women of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Mount Joy, will sponsor a Holiday Food Bazaar on Saturday, Decem- ber 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Home-baked food items will highlight the bazaar. Cranberry relish, home baked bread, pies, cakes, jellies, preserves, candy, and traditional Christmas cookies. Christmas tree orna- ments, quilling items, Kits, and other beautiful crafts, poinsettias, and holly will be featured. ALAN M. ARMOLD Marine Private First Class Alan M. Armold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Armold of 909 Wood Street, Mount Joy, PA, was gradu- ated from Air Control Electronics Operator School at the Marine Corps Base, Twenty-nine Palms, Cali- fornia. The four-week course includes instruction on the operation and maintenance of tactical data and radar systems used to detect, indentify, and intercept hostile aircraft, and to give navigational assistance 10 friendly aircraft. A 1974 graduate of Donegal . High , School, Mount Joy, he joined the Marine Corps in May 1975.
