Photographer says we live in ‘beautiful land’
‘1 like also the rolling
area southwest of Mount
Joy, around Maytown. To
me, it is perfectly beautiful
land, a pocket not to be
overwhelmed.”’
Thus spoke Grant Heil-
man, nationally known
photographer of rural
scenes, speaking to Lancas-

ruined the scenery he used
to photograph.
He is moving to Colorado,
where nature is still domin-
ant and the air is clean.
He warned against invit-
ing more industry into
Lancaster County which will
lead to even more popula-
tion and crowding.
The area around Maytown
which Heilman described as
perfectly beautiful, was
recently designated as agri-
cultural area in East Done-
gal Townships new zoning
ordinance.
The major purpose of the
ordinance is to preserve the
area between Mount Joy
and Marietta as agricultural
land and keep out commer-
cial, industrial, and housing
development.

Basketball
season is
underway
The boy’s basketball team
at DHS soundly defeated
Columbia last week. The
boys are now 2-2, and look
like strong contenders for
the league title.
The girl’s team dropped
games to Lampeter and
Solanco last week, after
winning the opener in their
first year of leaque basket-
ball.
