School twice a week to help the primary students with their reading. She and Miss Esther Ladensberger (also from the Home) go to Seiler each Monday and Wednes- day between the hours of 9a.m. and 1la.m. While there the ladies listen to the children read books and stories, helping them with such things as expression, emphasis, and punctuation. Mrs. Hayles really enjoys being active and loves to keep up on current news and events. Many years ago she played an important role in the women’s sufferage movement. For this reason she was recently honored by the League of Women Voters. A former organic gardener, Mrs. Hayles re- deems all occasion cards in her spare time. At the age of 78, Miss Esther Ladensberger helps out in the second grade Mrs, Bessie Hayles helps Vi ncent Gaudlip with his reading classroom of Mrs. Ann Bell. Mrs Bell believes Miss Ladensberger provides the grandmother image that so many of her pupils need. By keeping busy doing some- thing she likes to do, Miss Ladensberger feels that time passes much more quickly. ‘The youngsters are surely doing the best they can do, and that is good.’,says Miss Ladens- berger. Both women began this program at Seiler last February and would like very much to see it continue next year. While working with the children, Mrs. Hayles and Miss ladensber- ger encourage them to read as’ they would normally speak using expression and normal speed. This not only improves the children’s reading abilities, but also raises their level of compre- hension and makes reading much more interestiong. Their efforts have proved beneficial not only to the pupils, but also to them- selves, for they gain true fulfillment in helping the children learn. The children love to work with them and will surely miss them this summer. May 21, 1975 NS DEDICATION PARADE CARNIVAL DEDICATION DINNER Marietta Fire Co. R i B/ 7 Jal FIREHOUSE DEDICATION 1pm.
