May 7, 1975 Students take over schools Last Monday and Tuesay, there was a reversal of roles in the Donegal School Sys- tem as students participated in Student Government Ca- detTeaching Day. These students spent Monday ob- seving the teacher they were to replace, but on Tuesday they actually ‘‘took over” classrooms and offices throughout the school sys- tem. Pam Horst traveled to all the schools interviewing the replacement teachers. Most of them agreed that being a teacher was much different from being a student. Marlene Hess, who re- placed Mrs. Sadie Brooks as nurse, said that she enjoyed herself but felt that the high school could use more first aid supplies. Jeanne Freed taught 6th grade at Seiler Elementary and had no butterflies because she had taught in a similar program last year. Barb Landis substituted for Mr. Prowell at the Junior High and gained valuable teaching experience. Holly Baker returned to Riverview to teach in an open classroom, while Mimi Gin- der traveled to Grandview and found that, “It’s hard to get down to their level.” Deb Sarbaugh, Odessa Mull, Sonya Smith, and Ann Houseal were stand-ins as secretaries. They all gener- ally agreed that the office could use some nice, soft music and - some doughnuts! Mr. Drenner had two replacements, Gary Graybill and Tex Landis. They believe “It’s a whole different ball game out of the classroom.” RAy Husband sat in for Mr. West. He said, *‘It feels comfortable. The chairs are softer.”’ John Weidman found Mr. Armold’s job of directing athletics, taking attendance and teaching to be a rather demanding schedule. Last, but not least, Daryl Houseal chose to become a custodian for a day. His words of wisdom for the students are, ‘‘Stop chewing gum because we have to scrape it off the furniture. All in all, the day was a success, but, in the opinion of most of those interviewed more students should be involved. ‘Principal’ Gary Graybill SUSQUEHANNA BULLETIN — Page 7 ‘Nurse’ Marlene Hess oe 4 3 Host . / 2, : ve 125 Orange Street, Florin Ward 10:00 Will GUARANTEE your clothes to be the cleanest, brightest, freshest ever.
