The three winning essays entitled “I Pledge Allegi- ance” were read at the Americanism program spon- sored by the Maytown American Legion Auxiliary in their headquarters. Mrs. Henry Haines, chairperson of the program, introduced" the speakers: Marcia Aungst, first place; Pat Peifer, 2nd place; and Brian Lesher, 3rd place winners. Mrs. Goldy Yordy, president of the Auxiliary, presented each with a prize. “Love of Country and Patriotism” was the title of the address presented by J. W. W. Loose, a member of the faculty at Donegal High School and President of the Lancaster County Historical Society. District 14 ‘awards night will be held at the Farm and Home Center on April 27. Will bridge be named “Wright's Ferry?” Rep. Kenneth E. Brandt, R-Lancaster, announced his legislation (HB 290) to name the bridge over the Susque- hanna River on U. S. Route 30 the Wright’s Ferry Bridge, has passed the House and is now in the Senate for study and passage. Brandt =xplained that this span links Columbia, Lancaster County and Wrightsville, York County on Route 30, and he has received a tremendous re- sponse from the residents of the Columbia area, sup- porting his proposal to name the bridge the Wright’s Ferry Bridge.
